about Rebecca:

Hi everybody-I'm Rebecca. As a kid, I loved music and swimming; I always had a camera in my hand; and I was passionate about physics. How would I ever combine these interests into one great life? At the time, the best solution I could find to that crazy puzzle was designing concert halls! I majored in mechanical engineering at NC State and fell into a career designing surgical instruments-not exactly what I had imagined. But then, my husband (a handsome cop) proposed by sending me on a scavenger hunt across Raleigh to find puzzle pieces that fit together to create a three-dimensional box he designed using photos of us. We married (Millie photographed the wedding!) and now the pieces of my life are all falling right into place. I live in Raleigh, NC, where I'm training for a half-marathon, enjoying music, and focusing on a career in photography with Millie as my mentor. Want to know more about what inspires me? 08.25.10 ~ Updates ~ posted by Millie, Brent & Amanda, Rachel, Rebecca

*THIS IS A PINNED POST. SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ALL NEW POSTS! *

This past year has been a blessing in more ways than I can imagine! MHP is growing like crazy... we just can't handle all of the work coming our way so we are looking to expand our team on several fronts. If you or someone you know is interested in any of the jobs below please have them call the number listed within each post!

We are excited about what 2011 will bring!

NOTE: If you are interested in these positions do not call the office, email, or facebook me... simply call the phone number and follow ALL of the directions to apply.

PART-TIME IMAGE EDITOR & OFFICE ASSISTANT

We currently have a full-time image editor. On October 1st, she will be leaving us to go to school and won't be able to work full-time (or in the studio). She will continue to work for us from out-of-state on a part-time basis, so we are looking for someone to complement her position.

The available position is an on-going, long-term, part-time job. It will start out as a part-time position with the potential to become full-time at some point in the future. (No guarantees or time frames can be given and you should not apply for this position if you must have full-time work!) You must live in the Wilmington area (this is an in-house position) and be available to work 20+ hours a week at our studio during regular business hours.

In addition to image editing, you will work closely with our Studio Manager to help her with some of her daily administrative responsibilities. The administrative portion of this job could take up to 50% of your time; if you are not willing to do administrative tasks, this is not the job for you! Also, please note that this position is not for photographers; there is little to no chance that the job will develop into a photography-based position.

Knowledge of Photoshop is not required (it can be taught), but it is a plus. You should have a good eye for style and design and a strong working knowledge of basic computer programs (Office, Outlook, etc.) You should have good phone manners (you will be required to answer the phone sometimes) and an attitude and work ethic where you are willing to take on any job that is asked of you.

This position requires someone who can work effectively and efficiently at a computer most of the day. It also requires an individual with an adaptable and flexible personality. You must be able to concentrate and produce in a fast-paced, often distracting, and always changing environment.

Once you have called the number below and followed all of the instructions indicated in the voicemail, please email me a "style board" (left to your own interpretation) that best displays your personality and style for design. To see an example of a style board, click here. Your board does not have to be photographs that you have shot or edited, just a collection of images that represent your personal style and aesthetic. Send it to hire@millieholloman.com.

There should be a time lapse of no more than 24 hours between leaving a message at the number below and sending your style board via email. In an ideal world, you would not leave a phone message until the portfolio is ready to send. Title your email message: "Style Board, (Your Name)". Be sure to include your name (as left on the voicemail) and your contact information in the body of the email.

If you are interested in becoming a Part-Time Image Editor/Office Assistant with Millie Holloman Photography call 910.795.1968 to apply. Salary: $10 per hour on a contract basis. MHP does not provide benefits for contract employees.

NOTE: Do not call the office, email, or facebook me... simply call the phone number and follow ALL of the directions to apply.

LOCAL PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER (WILMINGTON, NC)

Millie Holloman Photography is seeking a part-time portrait photographer for our local market. This position is designed as an on-going, long-term, part-time job. It will start out as a part-time position with the potential to become full-time at some point in the future. (No guarantees or time frames can be given and you should not apply for this position if you must have full-time work!)

You must live in the Wilmington area and be available to work a flexible schedule during regular, evening and weekend hours. Your hours and your salary will be determined by the amount of portrait sessions you do. Due to our non-compete requirements, you will not be able to run your own photography business on the side should you be selected for this position.

The ideal candidate is a photographer with a great eye who can adapt his or her style of shooting to the MHP signature style. You should enjoy working with children, have a fun and spontaneous personality, be flexible and adaptable to a wide range of working conditions, and be willing to learn. Knowledge of shooting in manual is a plus but not required, as it can be taught.

As our local Wilmington-based portrait photographer, you will work closely with Millie on a new business venture. You should be prepared to invest effort and energy in helping the MHP team get your book of business up and running. This will include but not be limited to: networking, expo and trade show participation, in-house training, concept styling, and more. The position is ideally suited to someone who has a strong interest in both the creative and the business sides of portrait photography.

Once you have called the number below and followed all of the instructions indicated in the voicemail, please email me a portfolio of at least 30 images to hire@millieholloman.com.

There should be a time lapse of no more than 24 hours between leaving a message at the number below and sending your portfolio via email. In an ideal world, you would not leave a phone message until the portfolio is ready to send. Title your email message: "Portrait Photography Portfolio, (Your Name)". Be sure to include your name (as left on the voicemail) and your contact information in the body of the email as well.

If you are interested in becoming a Part-Time Portrait Photographer with Millie Holloman Photography call 910.795.1831 to apply. Salary: contract-paid and commission-based commiserate with the amount of shooting you do. Be prepared to start slowly and increase your income as your book of business and reputation build with our help and support. MHP does not provide benefits for contract employees.

NOTE: Do not call the office, email, or facebook me... simply call the phone number and follow ALL of the directions to apply.

SECOND SHOOTERS

MHP Photography is currently seeking part-time second shooters to contract in the following areas: Raleigh, Charlotte, and Wilmington. Our hope is to add 3 second shooters to our team, each assigned to an individual photographer within our company. Your schedule would be established a month or more in advance. You could be working up to 30 Saturdays/Sundays per year, and could work some weekends more than others, i.e., 4 weddings in one month during peak season and no weddings during a month in off-season.

The perfect candidate for this position would be someone who has a full-time or part-time job doing something other than photography during the week, and would like consistent weekend work. You would assist and second shoot for an MHP Photographer. We are looking someone who can commit long-term (1-2 years+); this is not a portfolio building opportunity. You will be required to sign a non-compete agreement. Any images you shoot will be owned by Millie Holloman Photography. There may be potential for further growth within our company, but no guarantees or time frames can be given.

The ideal candidate is able to take direction well, work in a fast-paced environment, carry heavy bags and equipment, help set up lighting and equipment, act as a runner at events, stand for 6-8 hours, exhibit strong customer service skills and interact pleasantly with clients and co-workers. You must have a positive, team-oriented attitude and be willing to support the photographer you assist in a myriad of ways. You also must be willing to travel.

You must have a passion for photography, a good eye for detail, good composition skills, intermediate camera skills, a teachable spirit, and a cooperative attitude.

Once you have called the number below and followed all of the instructions indicated in the voicemail, please email me a portfolio of at least 30 or more images to hire@millieholloman.com. You can send images or links to images. Remember that you applying to be a second shooter at weddings--your portfolio should include images of people and images of details so that we can get a feel for how your work would translate into an MHP wedding shoot.

There should be a time lapse of no more than 24 hours between leaving a message at the number below and sending your portfolio via email. In an ideal world, you would not leave a phone message until the portfolio is ready to send. Title your email message: "Second Shooter Portfolio, (Your Name)". Be sure to include your name (as left on the voicemail) and your contact information in the body of the email as well.

If you are interested in becoming a Second Shooter with Millie Holloman Photography call 910.795.1828 to apply. Salary: $100-200 per wedding depending on skill and experience level. This position will require you to complete training at a series of weddings without pay; you will also sign a non-compete agreement. You must be available to work consistently on weekends. MHP does not provide benefits for contract employees.

NOTE: Do not call the office, email, or facebook me... simply call the phone number and follow ALL of the directions to apply.

08.31.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rachel, Rebecca

There is always one thing that goes slightly awry at every wedding. Call it something going wrong if you will, but it's the imperfections in a wedding that make it special and memorable.

I arrived at the Orchard House a few hours before the ceremony began to see Jennifer looking radiant and excited. She was surrounded by her bridesmaids and slipping into her gorgeous gown. When Jennifer realized she had forgotten her wedding shoes at home, I thought that would be the one thing that went awry. I was wrong.

Jennifer and Danny dealt with everything from flooding to power outages to a cake slide on their wedding day. Their ceremony had to be delayed, their formal portraits adjusted because of family members trying to get a generator and their first sight was moved from a vast garden of loveliness to a foyer on the 2nd story of the house. If you weren't there, it would be easy to call their day disastrous. But their smiles never faded. The guests never complained. They never lost focus of what this day was really all about. Jennifer and Danny celebrated their love and commitment to each other that day and that took center stage. It was truly one of the most memorable and special weddings I have ever had the pleasure of photographing.

At this moment, it was pouring rain and pretty impossible to head outside. A huge thanks to Rebecca for helping me to move some furniture so we could make this first sight happen! Don't they look blissfully happy here?

The fan on the left was actually a Christmas tree topper. Fabulous, right?! I love the peacock theme going on here.

Jennifer, you are a STUNNING bride.

This next series might be my favorite of the day. Maybe because the light was so pretty. Maybe because you can't tell it was raining (it had died down to a sprinkle by that time). But probably because Jennifer and Danny are rockstars for going out into the rain before their ceremony for the picture. PS She got her shoes delivered, thank goodness. Aren't they so cute?

The amazing staff at Orchard House dried off as many chairs as they could and removed the rest so the family and guests could at least stand with their umbrellas and stay dry for the ceremony.

As soon as the bride started down the aisle, the music stopped. The guests realized that the generator had died from the rain and they didn't miss a beat. They hummed the wedding march for her as she walked down the aisle. It was an amazing and beautiful moment that I hope Jennifer and Danny never forget!

By the end of the ceremony, the rain...had stopped!!! The umbrellas came down and everyone celebrated in style with clapping and cheers as this sweet couple celebrated their first kiss as husband and wife.

The grounds were still very wet, but Jennifer wouldn't let that stop her from getting the pictures she wanted. I LOVE that she wasn't worried about her dress. Truly.

After all the formalities were over, the guests were ready to PARTY!

I photograph weddings almost every weekend. Most receptions include a garter and bouquet toss. So, when the garter retrieval started, I didn't give it a second thought. I'm so glad I positioned myself to get what happened next, though. Hilarious, Danny!!!

Jennifer thought it was pretty funny as well, obviously. ;)

I adore this shot that Rebecca caught of the happy couple. Pure joy.

Jennifer and Danny, you are rock stars. There were many ways you could have reacted during your wedding day, but none better and more admirable than the way you did. It was TRULY an honor!

08.24.10 ~ Press & Publication ~ posted by Millie, Rachel, Rebecca

Once in a while as an artists you've got to shoot for yourself. Taking on a project that feels a little dreamy and are inspiring is just the way to do that!

When Jennifer from Salt Harbor Designs showed me the board she selected from Style Me Pretty to model a shoot after I got all giddy. It was like the perfect day, a breath of fresh air, a little wind for my creative wings. I immediately called in our team to see if they were open and up for a little "fun shoot" and pulled some more fabulous local vendors on board. Rachel & Rebecca joined me for this shoot and it could not have been more fun and inspiring... it was just what I needed to feed my creative soul!

I'll be blogging the individual photos from this session very soon but until then here is a peek at the posts on the Style Me Pretty Blog... enjoy and be sure to visit all of the links!

08.18.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rebecca

When I started emailing with Kashia about her engagement session with Steven, I knew instantly it was going to be a fun one! They are such a fun and unique couple. Kashia is quite a foodie, and she has just entered the foreign service as a diplomat! Steven is a computer programmer, loves video games, and is soon to be a professor!

They love to have fun together, and what better place to have fun than Frankie's Fun Park - complete with arcade, laser tag, mini golf, climbing gyms, and go karts!

Air hockey and ski-ball... it takes me back to being a kid. I love that Kashia and Steven like to act like kids together.

Steven told us that he has always wanted to climb to the top of this jungle gym thing. It's like 2.5 stories tall of spiderweb-y levels... They didn't go all the way to the top, but he did convince Kashia to go with him for a few levels...

The staff at Frankie's was nice enough to let us borrow this little guy for a quick shot. It fit perfectly with Kashia and Steven's t-shirts, don't you think?

After hanging out inside for a while, we headed out to the mini-golf course for a few minutes. I told you they love to laugh together!

So sweet!

And so silly!

When Steven proposed, Kashia took pictures of her ring on ring-pops and sent out a shot to their friends and family to announce their engagement. I loved the idea, so I thought I'd do a little tribute to their candy-ring shot. I couldn't find ring-pops anywhere, but lifesavers seemed a good substitute!

Kashia mentioned that she and Steven love Krispy Kreme, so I knew we had to shoot there. Apparently, Krispy Kreme used to give out free donuts when the "Hot Now" sign was on... but not anymore. Oh well, we enjoyed some donuts and some fun anyway! This series really shows off their silly side...

A few more shots outside in the last bit of light....

...and we just had to include the famous sign!

Kashia and Steven, thank you for spending the evening with me! I had a blast getting to know you and see you being silly together! Good luck in all the new adventures you're about to have!

08.04.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rebecca

You might remember Sara and Sandro from their art museum engagement session last fall. Well, they tied the knot this summer, and I'm so happy to be able to show you their beautiful and special day!

They were married at Fred Fletcher Park right here in Raleigh! There's a beautiful historic house on the grounds, and that's where I caught up with Sara, just as she was getting into her dress. The dress was so unique and was absolutely perfect for Sara!

The girls were all buzzing around, putting the finishing details on dresses and hair. You could just see how excited they were to see Sara and Sandro get married!

I loved Sara's simple veil - perfect!

Sara and Sandro had a Jewish ceremony, so before the ceremony, they got together with the rabbi and signed the ketubah.

Everything was set and it was time to get married!

Sara was walked down the aisle by her father and all her beautiful little flower girls! I really like this shot of them off in the distance, making their way from the house to the gorgeous outdoor ceremony spot!

It was a beautiful day, and if you ask me, there's nothing better than an outdoor wedding!

The guests at a wedding are always fascinating to me. So many different people coming together to celebrate a couple that they love!

As part of the ceremony, there were seven blessings - each one was read by a different guest. Such a beautiful way to incorporate the guests into the day.

Married!!

As the guests socialized and made their way back to the house, I stole away with Sara and Sandro for a few quiet minutes for just the two of them. This is probably one of my favorite times on a wedding day. There is so much joy, excitement, and relaxation after the ceremony is over.

Sara and Sandro, you are just a beautiful couple!

Heartfelt hugs and greetings from all the guests as they made their way back to the house for the reception.

Weddings inevitably mean worlds colliding. People from all the different facets of your lives are together in one place. How do you get them mingling? Well, Sara and Sandro had a brilliant idea! There was an envelope for each guest, and in each envelope was a piece of a puzzle. Guests were assigned to small groups - they had to find the other people in their group and put the puzzle pieces together. Then, the finished puzzle was a little quiz of questions about Sara and Sandro.

The whole house was filled with little groups of guests working on their puzzles and questionnaires, and everyone was mingling, laughing, and talking.

Each table at the reception was decorated with a different vintage tablecloth, and each room had a different type of flowers. It was beautiful!

Doesn't Sara just look beautiful?

The kids at this wedding were so cute!

As the last part of the mingling-guest idea, they were instructed to go upstairs, where Sara and Sandro had set up a little photo booth. Each group was supposed to get a photo taken together. Then these pictures were put into a guest book, and everyone could type up a little message on a vintage typewriter for Sara and Sandro to read later.

Sara and Sandro, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day and trusting me to capture these memories for you. It was a perfect day, and I loved all the personal touches you put on it! All the best to you both!
