about Rebecca:

Hi everybody-I'm Rebecca. As a kid, I loved music and swimming; I always had a camera in my hand; and I was passionate about physics. How would I ever combine these interests into one great life? At the time, the best solution I could find to that crazy puzzle was designing concert halls! I majored in mechanical engineering at NC State and fell into a career designing surgical instruments-not exactly what I had imagined. But then, my husband (a handsome cop) proposed by sending me on a scavenger hunt across Raleigh to find puzzle pieces that fit together to create a three-dimensional box he designed using photos of us. We married (Millie photographed the wedding!) and now the pieces of my life are all falling right into place. I live in Raleigh, NC, where I'm training for a half-marathon, enjoying music, and focusing on a career in photography with Millie as my mentor. Want to know more about what inspires me? 02.03.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rebecca

In chatting with Jennifer about her engagement session, I already knew that I would love her and Kyle. They are beautiful, stylish people who just want to have a good time! How can I ask for more than that? I was in Charlotte for the weekend, so we decided to meet in town for their fun, colorful engagement shoot. I had never been to this part of Charlotte before (ok, I've never been to most of Charlotte before), so it was a new spot for me, which is always fun!

The first time we walked up to this fire house door, the siren started wailing and we barely missed being run over by the fire truck as it swept out of the garage and off to an early morning call! What I loved the most was Jennifer and Kyle's reaction to that - they just cracked up laughing with me! We returned to the firehouse after we'd all stopped laughing so hard... because I just can't resist a bright red door like that!

Jennifer and Kyle first met in 7th grade and finally started dating during college. What a great long history of friendship!

It was a chilly morning, and we walked alllllllll over this little area of Charlotte. They were such good sports though and didn't complain once! Aren't they so cute together?

You might notice, as I did, how stylish Jennifer is. Well, she used to manage an Anthropologie store, so I guess that should come as no surprise to us!

I love the color in this shot - and how they are so wrapped up in what they were doing that they forgot about me for just a second!

After a bit more walking, we found this old abandoned school... I so wanted to find a way to get inside, but everything was boarded and locked, so no luck. We settled for shooting outside a bit, which I also love. Kyle is paying such close attention to Jennifer here - and from what I saw all morning, I would bet that is a regular occurrence. So great.

I love this one - it's just so "them"!

Kyle picked out the ring all by himself - and what a fantastic job he did! Gorgeous!

I really like this one too - they are so attentive to each other. Love is such a beautiful thing!

Kyle and Jennifer - I could not be more excited about shooting your wedding this spring! I can't wait to see all the unique touches you put on your day and how you celebrate your love for one another!

my thoughts on this week [from the editor's desk]

01.15.10 ~ Updates, Life ~ posted by Millie, Brent & Amanda, Rachel, Rebecca

Well, 2010 has certainly arrived.

If you follow my twitter, you've most likely heard my most recent, and fairly blunt, thoughts on the many happenings 2010 has already brought along...

Most of you are familiar with my obsessive love for polaroids and toy cameras, so you can imagine my disappointment last year when we all waved goodbye to our favorite shake-it photographs.

Luckily, The Impossible Project launched towards the end of last year in efforts to re-invent and re-start production of film for vintage Polaroid cameras...but I'm not sure any of us were expecting to see Lady Gaga selling us our favorite instant film.

I can't lie and say that I like anything by Lady Gaga, but I must give her props for originality in areas such as:

- completely eliminating the use of pants in everyday wardrobe (even in Winter)
- re-inventing the one piece in an infinite amount of unfortunate ways such as pleather, see-through, etc. (due to lack of pants)
- deciding sunglasses are more necessary than pants (and wearing them regardless of sunlight being anywhere in sight)
- and of course, her infamous "hair art" such as hair hats, hair manes, and even hair umbrellas (I can't prove the last one, but I don't doubt it)

I do believe we were all equally shocked this week when hearing of Jay Leno potentially kicking Conan O'Brien out of his time slot on NBC. I don't watch much television at all, but I think the easiest way to sum all of this up is simply: Conan>Jay.

We may have lost the battle, Conan, but in the end you made us you laugh 100 times more.

On a less disappointing note, I have been giving Vampire Weekend's new album, CONTRA, a few spins. It's a fun new album for 2010, and has all of the familiar indie-pop bliss we loved from their first one. They do a little more adventuring on this album, and while each track is different than the one before it, they somehow manage to just feel right together.

I'm still not sure why people talked about this album like it was going to alter our universe, but at the end of the day, whether you love them or hate them, I promise you'll have these tunes stuck in your head.

Last, but MOST important, our world was absolutely turned upside down when hearing of the disaster earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on Tuesday of this week. The exact number of deaths and injuries was uncertain in the midst of wreckage, but the international Red Cross stated a third of the country's 9 million people may need emergency aid.

While rumors of the United Parcel Service shipping relief items, and airlines flying doctors to Haiti for free were sadly proven untrue, we can all still do our own part to help aid in this ongoing disaster. There are currently numerous ways to help, so let's all try and give to Haiti in the midst of such devastation. All of our efforts together CAN make a difference.

Just today MHP made our donation to Thirst Relief International in honor of the "Haiti Rebuild Project". We urge you to find a charity and do the same or, head over to Thirst Relief and make your own donation!

We encourage you to have a hand in the relief efforts for Haiti!

Here's to 2010- the moments that will keep us laughing until it hurts, the tragedies that will bring us to our knees, the love that will keep us alive, and the hope that we will all not just live, but thrive.

01.13.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rebecca

Alicia and Neal are seriously one of the most genuinely sweet and loving couples that I've ever met. The past few months have been hard for them and their families, but it seems that it has only drawn them closer together and made them stronger as a couple. Their day was beautiful, to say the least.

The ceremony and reception were held at Neal's aunt and uncle's beautiful home! It was the perfect setting for an intimate and sweet wedding.

Neal's boutonniere was one of my favorite touches, although I love most anything with peacock feathers, so maybe I'm a little biased.

When I arrived for the day, Neal and the boys were getting ready at Neal's parents' house. They were so much fun and you could just tell how excited they were for Neal to marry Alicia that day.

One of my favorite moments from their wedding was hearing Neal's dad talk about how happy he was to have Alicia joining their family. He kept saying that she was just the final piece to the puzzle and he couldn't be happier to have her as his daughter. And every word was as genuine as can be.

Alicia and Neal opted to do a "First Sight", which as I've said before, is maybe my favorite thing that a bride and groom can choose to do! And I really think that it was a fantastic decision for the two of them. I was standing across the yard, but I could hear Neal yelling how beautiful Alicia looked! It was a really fun moment to observe, and I think you can see his excitement in this next little series.

Alicia's short, sassy veil was stunning, and the way the wind was catching it here makes me smile!

You two are perhaps the cutest couple ever! I love when couples just let a moment happen - and this is exactly what this was! Neal just swept Alicia right off her feet. Perfection!

And all the beautiful ladies! Alicia's dress was completely amazing, and she even added a few touches of her own. She sewed in the lace around the neckline of her dress herself. It couldn't have been more perfect!

This wedding party gets the award for best party ever! They were up for anything, and these girls didn't even flinch when I asked them to climb up into a rail car for this shot. You guys are AMAZING!

A few more of the gorgeous couple...

A sweet, quiet moment between just the two of them.

I adore the look on Alicia's face as she walks towards her very-soon-to-be husband! Radiant!

The intimate ceremony included lots of laughter and joy, along with even a few tears.

And they're married!

Can't you just feel their joy here?!

Alicia and Neal, thank you for letting me be a part of your day. Your love for each other is brilliant, and I loved getting to see just a bit of it. I wish you all the best in everything you do! Congratulations!
