Hi there! Welcome to the Millie Holloman Photography blog. Our company has just one name, but we’re an entire team of crazy, creative, passionate, professional photographers. We’re based all over North Carolina (Wilmington, Raleigh, & Charlotte), but we work all over the world. What do we shoot? In one word: Love. Wedding Love. Baby Love. Family Love. Love of details. Love of design. Love of nature. And this blog? Well, it showcases the images, the people, and the stuff we want to share, both professionally and personally. So what are you waiting for? Come on in and look around.
We want you to get the most out of your time here, so here are a few helpful tips: Check out the text block above that says: “photographers”. Use it to get to know just one photographer better by sorting just their images, twitter updates or bio. Wondering who shot what? Look for the signature on the bottom left of each photograph. You may think that this whole business is about me, but it isn't. I have many great people who work here, some you see and talk to every day, others work behind the scenes. But they all work hard to make things happen around here! I don't know what I would do without each and every one of them and I want you to meet them too!
In this section I will be highlighting members of our team! I get the priveledge of being the "boss" of these amazing people and we are more than co-workers, we are family, the MHP family! I want everyone to know who they are, what they love, and most importantly what their role is as a member of the team! This way when you have a question, you'll know who to ask...
I am going to ask everyone some questions about themselves and let you in on a little piece of their lives, maybe even their deepest, darkest secret (well maybe not quite that far).
To kick off the fun I'll start with myself.

My full name is... Millie Ann Holloman (i have my Mom's middle name and my Great Grandmother's first name)
3 music artists I love... Just three? That is hard, I am not a music junkie like most of my staff but I DO like a lot of stuff! Nickle Creek style rocks and bluegrass makes me smile! My favorites are always changing as I continue to discover amazing artists! Right now I also really enjoy listening to Amos Lee (I love the song Sweet Pea). Lindsey is typically our very own in office DJ and I trust her taste in music, she controls the beats when in the studio so I guess I also like what she likes except when she plays that weird stuff!
If I could have dinner with 3 people dead or alive, they would be...
My grandfather because he passed when my mother was young and I never got to meet him. I hear he was a really great guy.
The CEO of a fortune 500 company so that I could quiz them on everything they did right and wrong while rising to the top.
John Maxwell, he is the man when it comes to leadership. I would LOVE to get some great advice from him!
When I'm not working... I am sleeping or teaching workshops (which I guess is technically still working). I also really enjoy hanging out with friends, I am not a big crowd person. A good game of Mario Cart on the Wii or a board game with a small group of close friends is great fun for me and a much needed break! I prefer real conversation to shallow how about the weather type exchanges so small groups are great!
My first love... it was my little blanket. I think I slept with it every night until I was about 14. I remember one time at my friends slumber party that my parents had to come all the way back over to their house to bring my blanket because I had forgotten it and I was hysterical. I understand my yellow blanket was given to me when I was first born and was made by a distant relative. Although I still have it tucked away in my closet I would be ashamed to let you see it now because it is disgustingly well worn.
I like... Sundrop (it is a drink here), laughter, the color yellow, a freshly made bed, my nintendo wii, pottery barn, snow, photography books, driving (not riding most times), bike rides, boat rides, playing games on my iphone, collecting vintage cameras, playing with my nephew, doing anything where I can just relax, be still and think!
I don't like... tardiness, celery, chaos, clutter, when people call me Milli Vanilli, bad hair days, laziness, disrespect, talking politics, profanity, & getting up early.
Your role at MHP... I am a photographer and the owner of the company. I shoot wedding and family sessions, train our MHP photographers, oversee the daily operations of the business and teach workshops around the world. Life is good!

Meet our studio manager and photographer, Amanda!
Amanda & Brent photograph weddings together as well as portrait sessions. They are based in Wilmington, NC. As you'll see below, Amanda's last name is also Holloman and that is because she's married to my brother, Brent. I actually also get to be lucky enough to be her best friend which makes introducing her in public a little crazy because she has a LONG list of titles and roles she fills in my life. The truth is, I don't know how I would get along without her. I also can't think of another person I would rather be working right beside me all day long!
I've known Amanda since I was teenager and I know her better than most anyone. She has great integrity, a positive attitude and a drive and determination to be the best at everything she set's her hands to! Amanda really rocks it out for us over here at MHP, she makes sure the studio stays organized, that everyone is getting the best customer experience possible and that everything that needs to happen on a daily or weekly basis is done. We could not do what we do without this blonde bombshell. |

My full name is... Amanda Dianne Holloman and yes my last name is in relation to Millie. She’s my best friend and sister-in-law! How lucky am I!
3 music artists I love... First would have to be for my undying love to Coldplay. I have loved and followed this band from the beginning! I love everything about them from their lyrics to specific rifts in the songs and they support great causes. I also adore Feist! The singer does some awesome things with her voice and I think her songs are fun. Okay, so I will even confess that when I turn them on I dance all over the place! And my final choice (which is hard because I love so many) would be Lovedrug because their music has great lyrics and the music is beautiful by itself! I also love and recommend Sigur Ros, Death Cab for Cutie, Mewithoutyou, Minus the Bear, Dear and the Headlights, and I could go on for a while!
If I could have dinner with 3 people dead or alive, they would be... Steve Jobs because the man is a total marketing genius! If I could understand and pick just a little bit of his brain over a big plate of fettuccini alfredo that would be amazing! I think I could learn a lot from him. Job from the Bible because that man endured everything under the sun! He lost everything including his family and he still kept his faith strong! I want to stand trials I am faced with in life and trust that God is going to pull me through it! And as a side note, Job and I would enjoy a nice multi-course meal because I think he earned it! Finally, I would have dinner with my husband. Awwwwwwww……. Why? Because I love him and he makes me laugh all the time. And even though I could have dinner with him anytime I still choose him as one of my three. We would probably enjoy a yummy meal at Jalapeńos (a great Mexican restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. Holla!)
When I'm not working… I am going to the movies, watching my favorite TV shows (Lost, Heroes, Dexter, Prison Break…it continues), shopping, hanging out with friends, playing board and video games, or playing with my iphone.
My first love... I’ll admit my first love was a boy named Dustin Holt and I had big crush on him. But like many things in life, that faded and I found my husband Brent. I fell in love with him when I was 16 and I haven’t stopped loving him since!!! And I do have another love in my life that my husband is well aware of and his name is Milo. He is my cute, little, long-haired mini-dachshund. He is my baby!
I like... movies with a twist, going to concerts, laughing really hard, taking really cool pictures, eating Mexican food, sushi,
learning little nuggets of useless information, playing soccer, and spending time with people I love!
I don't like... long lines at amusement parks, going to bed angry, spiders (they creep me out seriously!), clowns, the take-off part of flying, missing a photo opportunity, and always misplacing my keys!
Your role at MHP... I am the studio manager I also help with album designer and image editing and I am a photographer under MHP. I love it dearly! And as a best friend, I help Millie enjoy life outside of the office! |

Allow me to introduce you to Brent! He is our graphic designer and photographer. It's because of Brent that we have amazing design, he really rocks out our brand! Brent also has been with us since the start of MHP. Amanda & Brent photograph weddings together as well as portrait sessions. They are based in Wilmington, NC but they travel worldwide.
Brent style is incredible, his work is quality and his perfectionism is hard to top. His incredible eye for design is a bonus when shooting because he always seems to get those great artistic shots and angles. During the week Brent runs his design business right from our studios, you can check out his work at www.brentholloman.com. We think he is pretty amazing but of course we are biased so go see for yourself!
To read more about Brent, check out his little office survey below... |

My full name is... Brent James Holloman. I am Millie’s younger brother and Amanda’s husband. I don’t know how I managed to snag and marry my sister’s best friend, but I am glad that I did!
3 music artists I love... I really enjoy listening to Guster. I went and saw them while I lived in Savannah and I thought their music was great. I like the vocals and the lyrics and I think the music is easy on the ears.
I also like the band, Minus The Bear. They have a unique style; one that is recognizable when you hear them anywhere.
I have always liked the band Elbow. Their lyrics, music and style is amazing! One of the best things about this band is that they sound just as incredible live as they do on the track.
I also like Belle & Sebastian, Coldplay, MuteMath, Death Cab For Cutie, Appleseed Cast, He Is Legend, Foo Fighters, Code Seven, Pedro the Lion…the list continues. The point is I like a lot of different stuff and picking my three favorites were difficult and can change depending on what new stuff comes out.
If I could have dinner with 3 people dead or alive, they would be... I guess I would like to have dinner with Ryan and Don Clark. Many of you are thinking, “Ok, who the heck are they?” These two guys are brothers and the creators of Invisible Creature. And now most of you are thinking “Ok, that only leaves me with more questions.” Ryan and Don are graphic designers who created a company with mainly phenomenal album art for bands. I love their style and creativity. Sometimes I spend hours looking at the artwork and just admiring what they create.
The second person I would have dinner with (Ryan and Don count as one) would be Jay Ryan. Again he is an artist and graphic designer who creates some of my favorite poster art. His work is beautiful and I get all my hand-type inspiration from him (Hand-type is like a design term that basically means type done by hand, if that helps at all). I have one of his poster prints and just begged my wife to let me get a couple more! Thanks Babe, you’re the best!
The third person I would have dinner with would be J. J. Abrams. I love his shows "Lost" and "Fringe", as well as his latest film Cloverfield. I am curious to know how he comes up with ideas for his storylines. It is crazy how he’s able to connect so many small parts that seem confusing and/or irrelevant, that later intertwines into a bigger story that makes sense! I just want to “nit-pick” his brain!
When I'm not working… I am glued to my computer, searching eBay for letterpress letters and wood type (yeah, I am a design nerd). I like to watch movies, buy posters, play on my iPhone and download cool new applications for it, listen to music, talk with friends online, play video games, travel down to Savannah to hang out with friends, sleep, and play my guitar.
My first love... is playing guitar. I have been playing since I was about thirteen years old. I played lead guitar for my youth group, then for Sunday morning service, and later for my college group when I went away for school. I haven’t been able to play a lot lately, but I intend on picking it back up when I have some moments to spare.
I like... wood type letters (so nerdy, right? But they are so cool!), collecting screen prints, sleeping in late, buying graphic design books and magazines, my little bud Milo (mine and Amanda’s dog who I love), chips and salsa, hanging with friends, finding good music, and designing logos.
I don't like... Pickles (gross), mustard, waiting for my wife while she shops, being late, Real World (the reality show on MTV—I mean really what’s the point), alarm clocks, listening to the same music over and over again, paying bills, when fast food places make me wait forever, only to get my order wrong (yeah it’s happened several times) and season finales because then I have to wait months until it comes back on.
Your role at MHP... I am a photographer and graphic designer. I work on all of Millie's branding and I also run my own business during the week doing graphic design. On the weekends, Amanda and I shoot weddings!

Say hello to Rebecca, one of our photographers for weddings and portraits! I has the pleasure of meeting Rebecca in early 2007 when she booked me to photograph her own wedding. My team and I fell in love with her sweet spirit and her interest for photography blossomed. Rebecca joined our team in December 2007 and she is based in Raleigh, NC. Of course Rebecca is also available to travel worldwide!
Take a peak at Rebecca's survey below for a peak into her personal life... |

My Full Name is: Rebecca Lynne Schlieman - my husband said I should have kept all 4 names when I got married - that would have been more letters than the whole alphabet!!! yikes!
Three Music Artists I love: Hmm, it is so hard to limit it to three! Top three? Kings of Leon, Needtobreathe, and U2. Some of my other current favorites are: The Afters, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, David Gray, Eric Hutchinson, The Fray, Frou Frou, Snow Patrol, One Republic, Mat Kearney.
If I could have dinner with three people dead or alive they would be: Both of my grandfathers - they were both inspiring and amazing men, and I would love to talk with them again. And Steve McCurry - my photographer idol. I'd love to pick his brain and hear his stories from travels around the world.
When I am not working I am: Working on our house, training for a triathlon, reading design blogs, drinking a good cup of coffee, taking day trips to the beach, or goofing off with friends.
My First Love: Maybe chocolate? But the love that really counts is my husband, Joel. I couldn't imagine loving anyone more, or anyone loving me more. (He can even handle it when I cry - now that's a keeper!)
I like: I love summertime, the beach and the sun! Seriously, give me a towel on the beach where I can hear the waves and just let me lay in the sun - I'm a happy girl! I love holidays and spending time with family, making way too many Christmas cookies, and giving gifts. When the leaves start to turn colors and the whole world is a vibrant, colorful canvas. Sunsets and surfing. Riding my bike. Definitely photography, and I couldn't live without music. Days when I can sleep in (which are few and far between lately), and warm covers to snuggle in on a cold morning. Fires in the fireplace, and roasting marshmallows. I love to travel and plan trips to far off places!
I don't like: Feeling like I'm running around in circles never getting anywhere, asthma, being cold, forgetting to do something. I hate headaches, and I wish I wasn't so addicted to caffeine. I don't like when people cut you off in traffic, or all the commercials on the radio at rush hour - seriously, play some music people!
You role at MHP: I'm a photographer - so my job is to capture the joy and love from your family or wedding day in timeless images, and I LOVE it! |

Meet Rachel. One of our MHP photographers. She is based out of Charlotte, NC. However, she travels worldwide to photograph weddings. Rachel is also available for portraits in the Charlotte area. Rachel drove all the way from Ohio for her interview and our entire team thought she was super so we gave her the job. Rachel is a fabulous photographer and we are excited to have her on board with us.
I could not have picked out anyone better in a line up. We totally know God sent her our way and He knew just what we needed! We are so excited about this incredible photographer joining our team, she fits just right. We even had her take the MHP staff question survey to prove it.... |

My full name is: Rachel Ann Barker
Three Music Artists I love: This one is so hard!!! My taste in music updates and changes hourly, so I can't say that these three are my all-time favorites. I'm so non-committal when it comes to bands, but I'll at least commit to my favorites of the day - Brandi Carlile, Phil Wickham and Imogen Heap, :) Ask me again tomorrow and it will be a completely different list.
If I could have dinner with three people dead or alive, they would be: probably Ron Paul to ask him what his policies really are and ask him why I should vote for him, the apostle Paul to ask him how to really serve God, and Santa Claus to ask him how he gets all those presents delivered on one day!
When I’m not working: I’m volunteering for my local church, taking care of my beautiful puppy, singing in the shower, and bugging my husband to take me somewhere fun.
My first love: probably acting. My mom is a music teacher, my dad was a piano player, grandpa a band director, and grandma a tap dancer. So performing arts kinda runs in the family. I found my niche in theatre around the age of thirteen and just fell in love with the stage. One of the reasons I love photography so much is that it takes the beauty of the performing arts and puts it into a hard copy form.
I like: sleeping in, warm weather, wind in my hair, when Emma (my dog) sits on my lap in total content, vintage beauty, old skool rap (to laugh at), my family and friends, giving, lindy hop, Broadway, and good food.
I don’t like: snow (unless it’s time to go skiing), taking down Christmas decorations, photographing bees and snakes with a macro lens, when people are mean, high-pressure sales, filing taxes, and uncomfortable shoes.
My role at MHP: A photographer looking to capture life, love and real moments! |
