Hi there! Welcome to the Millie Holloman Photography blog. Our company has just one name, but we’re an entire team of crazy, creative, passionate, professional photographers. We’re based all over North Carolina (Wilmington, Raleigh, & Charlotte), but we work all over the world. What do we shoot? In one word: Love. Wedding Love. Baby Love. Family Love. Love of details. Love of design. Love of nature. And this blog? Well, it showcases the images, the people, and the stuff we want to share, both professionally and personally. So what are you waiting for? Come on in and look around.
We want you to get the most out of your time here, so here are a few helpful tips: Check out the text block above that says: “photographers”. Use it to get to know just one photographer better by sorting just their images, twitter updates or bio. Wondering who shot what? Look for the signature on the bottom left of each photograph. Looking for something specific? Type the topic or a keyword into the search bar above for related results.
Wanna send us some love? There is no better way than leaving comments! We can't wait to hear from you so scroll down and see what's new…

| THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED... SCROLL DOWN TO READ ABOUT THE TWO THAT HAVE NOT BEEN FILLED YET. |

LOCAL PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER (WILMINGTON, NC)
Millie Holloman Photography is seeking a part-time portrait photographer for our local market. This position is designed as an on-going, long-term, part-time job. It will start out as a part-time position with the potential to become full-time at some point in the future. (No guarantees or time frames can be given and you should not apply for this position if you must have full-time work!)
You must live in the Wilmington area and be available to work a flexible schedule during regular, evening and weekend hours. Your hours and your salary will be determined by the amount of portrait sessions you do. Due to our non-compete requirements, you will not be able to run your own photography business on the side should you be selected for this position.
The ideal candidate is a photographer with a great eye who can adapt his or her style of shooting to the MHP signature style. You should enjoy working with children, have a fun and spontaneous personality, be flexible and adaptable to a wide range of working conditions, and be willing to learn. Knowledge of shooting in manual is a plus but not required, as it can be taught.
As our local Wilmington-based portrait photographer, you will work closely with Millie on a new business venture. You should be prepared to invest effort and energy in helping the MHP team get your book of business up and running. This will include but not be limited to: networking, expo and trade show participation, in-house training, concept styling, and more. The position is ideally suited to someone who has a strong interest in both the creative and the business sides of portrait photography.
Once you have called the number below and followed all of the instructions indicated in the voicemail, please email me a portfolio of at least 30 images to hire@millieholloman.com.
There should be a time lapse of no more than 24 hours between leaving a message at the number below and sending your portfolio via email. In an ideal world, you would not leave a phone message until the portfolio is ready to send. Title your email message: "Portrait Photography Portfolio, (Your Name)". Be sure to include your name (as left on the voicemail) and your contact information in the body of the email as well.
If you are interested in becoming a Part-Time Portrait Photographer with Millie Holloman Photography call 910.795.1831 to apply. Salary: contract-paid and commission-based commiserate with the amount of shooting you do. Be prepared to start slowly and increase your income as your book of business and reputation build with our help and support. MHP does not provide benefits for contract employees.
NOTE: Do not call the office, email, or facebook me... simply call the phone number and follow ALL of the directions to apply. |

SECOND SHOOTERS
MHP Photography is currently seeking part-time second shooters to contract in the following areas: Raleigh, Charlotte, and Wilmington. Our hope is to add 3 second shooters to our team, each assigned to an individual photographer within our company. Your schedule would be established a month or more in advance. You could be working up to 30 Saturdays/Sundays per year, and could work some weekends more than others, i.e., 4 weddings in one month during peak season and no weddings during a month in off-season.
The perfect candidate for this position would be someone who has a full-time or part-time job doing something other than photography during the week, and would like consistent weekend work. You would assist and second shoot for an MHP Photographer. We are looking someone who can commit long-term (1-2 years+); this is not a portfolio building opportunity. You will be required to sign a non-compete agreement. Any images you shoot will be owned by Millie Holloman Photography. There may be potential for further growth within our company, but no guarantees or time frames can be given.
The ideal candidate is able to take direction well, work in a fast-paced environment, carry heavy bags and equipment, help set up lighting and equipment, act as a runner at events, stand for 6-8 hours, exhibit strong customer service skills and interact pleasantly with clients and co-workers. You must have a positive, team-oriented attitude and be willing to support the photographer you assist in a myriad of ways. You also must be willing to travel.
You must have a passion for photography, a good eye for detail, good composition skills, intermediate camera skills, a teachable spirit, and a cooperative attitude.
Once you have called the number below and followed all of the instructions indicated in the voicemail, please email me a portfolio of at least 30 or more images to hire@millieholloman.com. You can send images or links to images. Remember that you applying to be a second shooter at weddings--your portfolio should include images of people and images of details so that we can get a feel for how your work would translate into an MHP wedding shoot.
There should be a time lapse of no more than 24 hours between leaving a message at the number below and sending your portfolio via email. In an ideal world, you would not leave a phone message until the portfolio is ready to send. Title your email message: "Second Shooter Portfolio, (Your Name)". Be sure to include your name (as left on the voicemail) and your contact information in the body of the email as well.
If you are interested in becoming a Second Shooter with Millie Holloman Photography call 910.795.1828 to apply. Salary: $100-200 per wedding depending on skill and experience level. This position will require you to complete training at a series of weddings without pay; you will also sign a non-compete agreement. You must be available to work consistently on weekends. MHP does not provide benefits for contract employees.
NOTE: Do not call the office, email, or facebook me... simply call the phone number and follow ALL of the directions to apply. |

I recently was invited to be a part of The Balcony's Open House which is undoubtably the best bridal event in Wilmington, NC! I'm always excited to see what amazing things they do with the space. For this open house I was paired with Jennifer from Salt Harbor Designs (love them)! We chatted about the best approach and came up with some fun ideas... her fruit for the theme was cherries and I thought pairing it with a polaroid photo booth would be the perfect match.
We also set up a shoot to match the theme prior to the show so that Jennifer could place the images around the room to depict the theme! Here is the collaboration of the images I shot with Jennifer's design. I'm lovin' it!
Venue: The Balcony On Dock & Roudabush Room
Design, Paper, & Florals: Salt Harbor Designs
Wooden Tables, Couches, & Chairs: Harborside Rentals
Lighting: High Performance Lighting
Chairs, Dinnerware, & Linens: Party Suppliers
Cake: Nicki's Cakes

I've been with Pictage since June 2004. I've seen them go through a lot of changes as a company and I could not be more excited for their recent transition (I think about a year ago now) with their CEO, Jim Collins stepping in. I think he's probably the best thing that's ever happened to Pictage. He is a super nice guy, someone who is just as much concerned with the success of their photographers as the company. I'm excited about the new direction they've been taking Pictage and I'm more excited than ever to announce that I'll be speaking at The Pictage Partner Conference this coming November in New Orleans!
Just take a look at this amazing list of speakers that I'm blessed enough to be amongst. If there is one thing Pictage does right (although we know there are lots) it's building community among their photographers. They give us an environment to grow in a smaller atmosphere than the HUGE trade shows. It's more personal environment built on and about creating and fostering relationships and community with others.
Attending PartnerCon (and even speaking at many of them) through the years has been a huge source of growth for me. These gatherings have granted me the ability to chat one on one with others who I respect and admire and they have given me solid advice to grow my business which is invaluable to me. It really is!
If it wasn't for Pictage many of the relationships I have with photographers across the country now wouldn't exists. I know that seems like a HUGE statement but it's totally truth. If you do yourself one favor this year, sign up for PartnerCon NOLA and while you are there, stop in a support me... I'll be speaking on Get It Together: Organize Your Business on Tuesday, November 9th at 2pm... I can't wait! |

Which of the following would you least like to do?
A. Drink a gallon of ketchup
B. Listen to fingernails on a chalkboard for 1 hour
C. Be trapped in an elevator with a bee
D. Lick a public toilet (ewwww!)
E. Attend a professional net working event by yourself
Would you be surprised if we told you that 60% of all people polled chose networking as the thing they would least like to do? For many, networking encompasses their worst fears: overcoming shyness (45% of all Americans consider themselves shy), being rejected, talking to strangers, making small talk, being judged on first impressions…oh, the horror!
But, I'm here to tell you that networking has changed my life--more than one! I've met some of my closest friends and some of my best business contacts via networking. And even though I'm pretty outgoing, I'm not crazy about networking events! That's why I'm currently in the process of recording a webinar with Charlene Dupray (guess what?--we met at a networking event!) that shares our success stories, our best ideas, and lessons we've learned (sometimes the hard way) about how to create networking magic. There are lots of ways to network, and our most effective ones will suprise you.
But, we need your help! Post your burning questions about networking, and we'll enter you in a drawing to win one of 3 prizes: a free recording of our Networking: in a Nutshell Webinar, a free tin of South 'n France Bon Bons, or a free download of our Original Flowboard.
Meanwhile, keep your fingers away from the chalkboard and steer clear of the ketchup!

Each year (sometimes more than once) I hit the road and travel to some remote place with several photography friends. The purpose: to get away, relax, talk shop, enjoy one another's company, and explore. This week I'm in a little town named Moab, Utah where 9 of us are tucked away in a HUGE cabin. We'll be taking lots of images of our trip and you can feel free to follow along on our blog.
Here is a peek at our sweet little house for the week, it's just beautiful out here!
Since I'm technically on vacation and have horrible internet and cell coverage I'll be a bit hard to get a hold of until next week. The girls are in the office and will be glad to help you out, just email them if you need anything at all! |
