As photographers we always hope for the best and ideal conditions. Nothing is more wonderful than to have a beautiful couple with wonderful wedding details, hearts filled with emotions, and a glorious day. The reality is that we can't always have everything to complete the "formula" for the images that we crave.
Louise and Charles are a wonderful and beautiful couple who were recently married on Figure Eight Island, NC. Everyone looked amazing in their suits and dresses, the decorations were perfect, and the weather was...WET. I don't mean a shower here and there, I mean oversized rain drops were falling, the wind was whipping, and the skies gave no hope of relief.
Nonetheless, the wedding turned out to be beautiful, and the mood was so romantic. Although the rain limited the places we could photograph, it didn't stop us from striving to capture the essence of Louise and Charles' day. The entire day was wonderful (even with the rain) and one that Louise and Charles, their friends and family, and Brent and I will never forget.
Thanks so much to everyone for being flexible and taking life as it comes- there truly is no other way to live! |

Love the girls ivory dresses with the rosette. So classy and beautiful!

What else do you need to go with a great dress? Fabulous shoes!!

The groomsmen hanging out in the trolley before the ceremony begins.

I love Louise's expression as she gets ready for a new chapter in her life.

I love the grain in this shot! It really sets the mood for the ceremony- romantic and memorable. Fun Fact: the veil that Louise wore for her wedding belonged to her mother!

Beautiful rain shot that Brent grabbed as Louise and Charles share the first moments together as husband and wife.

Thanks to Salt Harbor for the beautiful flowers and decor at the reception. Always delivering the best!

Friendships are very dear to Louise and Charles. I love this moment with all of the ladies...too cute!

One of my favorite parts about this grouping is the bridesmaid in the middle. Look at the air she is catching in high heels!

At the end of the night, the rains subsided and we took a chance to grab some images of Louise and Charles alone. The twinkle lights in the tree were gorgeous, and so romantic.

When it was time to say goodbyes and best wishes, everyone gathered their sparklers and made a tunnel of light for the bride and groom to walk through. How lovely...

Louise's getaway dress is perfect for her!

Thanks again to Louise and Charles for a grand wedding. Best wishes to you both!

The morning of Katie and Mark's wedding was just the way that the day of a wedding should be: bright, beautiful, and all around perfect. Rachel and I were able to see the whole day unfold, from Katie and her family arriving at the ceremony location to the grand exit. I love seeing a day from beginning to end - all the emotions, the excitement, the tears of joy - it's so special to see all of those things unfold as the day progresses.
Katie's best friends were there to help her get ready, from makeup to dress - and they did a fantastic job! The ceremony took place at the church where Katie and Mark attend, and where Katie teaches sunday school. We found this great little corner, where the light was beautiful, and was perfect for makeup (and photos!). I love her dress in the background of this photo. |

Katie was really excited - can you tell?

The moment that a bride gets dressed is probably one of my favorite moments in a wedding day. So many people making sure everything is just right, and everyone else watching in awe of just how beautiful she is. That's what I see here - I especially love the little girls in the background.

Radiant! That's all the words I have for how beautiful Katie looks here!
The handkerchief that she's holding is a really special story as well. She and her closest friends have been passing it around since the first one of them got married. They have the names of the couple and their wedding date embroidered on each corner. They plan on passing it down to their daughters when they have kids getting married. When Katie was telling me the story and their plans for passing down the handkerchief, her eyes started welling up with tears. |

Katie was really ambitious and took on making her own bouquet. A fantastic job, if you ask me!

Oh, I simply adore this image of the first time Katie's dad saw her. His reaction was absolutely priceless.

It's time to walk down the aisle! I'm loving Katie's reaction to seeing Mark for the first time.

Rachel grabbed this great shot of the amazing cathedral and the intimate ceremony that Katie and Mark had planned. If you remember from their engagement post, they decided that instead of having a huge wedding, they would put the money they would have spent on their wedding toward a downpayment on a house. I loved the small ceremony, it allowed for a much more personal touch.

Once the ceremony started, we were only allowed to shoot from the balcony of the church, but we were able to play around a bit while we were up there to get some unique shots.

I love all of the guests in the background - watching, photographing, videoing...

I love this shot that Rachel grabbed of the exit, as well. They both look so happy!

The incredibly happy couple!

This little one was so precious!

The reception spot was great - they had a private room for the 20 or so guests that were at the wedding. It was the perfect setting.

One of the best things about a small wedding is that everyone gets the chance to talk and tell the couple how much they have meant to them. It was really cool to hear all the stories. There was a lot of laughter and even a few tears as everyone recounted their memories of Katie and Mark growing up and growing together as a couple.

Even the kids gave the bride and groom gifts and kind words.

The kids were given these great gift kits at their table - crayons, paper to draw on, and these amazing lollipops. With color like that, and such a cute subject, I couldn't resist!

As gifts to their guests, Katie and Mark had these special chocolates brought from their favorite chocolatier. Each is hand painted, and made with a special flavor, and the couple chose all of them specifically for their day.

...and the little girls waiting to catch it!

Katie and Mark, you are a beautiful couple, and I am so happy that we got to be a part of your day. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Lindsay and Andy met on a blind date at a baseball game. There must have been some magic in the air that day on the field, because this adorable couple has been inseparable ever since! For their engagement session, we took a trip to The Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in the Charlotte area. It was my first trip there, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the gardens were full of beautiful hideaways and nooks with tons of color and character. This first image was one of the very first clicks of my camera.
|

The botanical gardens has an orchid conservatory. I have never seen a more beautiful greenhouse!

The theme of this location was definitely butterflies. They were flying around everywhere! Over our heads, landing on the blooms, landing on us...everywhere! Can you find the humongous butterfly in the next two shots? There is a debate in the studio as to whether it is real or just a decoration. I honestly can't remember, but my romantic side says it's most definitely the real deal and you can see the motion in the wings so it has to be real. ;)

This little guy was drying his wings...

I *heart* eskimo kisses! Linsday and Andy, you are a gorgeous couple!

One of my favorite shots of the day. This cool little hut is actually a bird house. The birds were being a little shy and hiding underneath the roof, but just knowing they were there makes me smile.

Lindsay and Andy love to have picnics together in the park. I don't know about you, but I've never been to a picnic this fancy! Cupcakes and wine...yes, please!

When talking to Lindsay and Andy about how to set up their engagement session, they mentioned they loved Yahtzee. I thought this would be a fantastic way to bring in a bit of their personalities into their engagement shoot. This next series turned out so great!

One final shot of this beautiful couple. When I told Lindsay I wanted to get a shot of them with the clouds in background, she exclaimed "These are my favorite type of clouds!!". So cute. I love my clients! And I love this shot. :)

Lindsay and Andy, I can't wait for your wedding! You were so easy to work with. Thank you, thank you, thank you for having me as your photographer, we are going to have a blast!

It's obvious in my previous posts that I have a slight love affair with anything fall related- cold air, sipping on hot teas & lattes, and pretty-pink evening light. And while October has made it's beautiful arrival, it has just as quickly slipped by without myself really getting a chance to enjoy it.
We have been so busy with sixteen weddings this month alone, and I have been on the back end trying to keep my head above water...still trying to remember to put life & my passions first, even in the middle of the nine to five.
So, in light of keeping my passions first, and constantly finding new things to be inspired by and bring me joy, I thought I would share a handful of my fall must haves.
|

First and foremost, I am loving double layered scarves, mixes of patterns and solids, and I absolutely adore the unique cowl necks that are coming in for this winter. The incredible cowl neck above is from this adorable seller on Etsy, and she even uses organic materials- which always makes my heart happy.
Every morning lately I have been driving to the studio to the sounds of Carla Bruni's french melodies. Her music is the perfect match for the brisk fall mornings, and her voice is a lovely mix of tender & raw. I highly recommend her album, Quelqu'un m'a dit (Someone Told Me) if you're a sucker for beautiful french music, like myself.
The change of the season has brought about my never-ending itch to re-do, re-create, and re-invent. In the middle of completely changing my bedroom the past few months (photos soon!), I have been stocking up on some great DIY reads for the perfect shabby chic touch. If you love turning old items into new treasures, and have a heart for DIY, you will love 'Recycled Home'. Buy it here.
Boots, boots, boots. What else can I say? You can never have enough. If you're looking for your love-at-first-sight pair, check out Urban's collection.
Last, but never ever least, I am a fiend for jewelry. I never feel complete unless I'm walking out the door with little metal treasures around my neck and fingers. My most recent jewelry obsession is Unearthen. They mix crystals from the earth with bullet shells, and create perfection on a chain. Each crystal has its own unique healing properties as well, and is absolutely beautiful. Amanda & I are currently drooling over the Titanium Quartz...
So there's my fall must haves. What about you? What brings you joy? What things can you just not live without? What makes your heart pitter patter?
