willock family

11.28.07 ~ Kids & Family ~ posted by Millie

I have photographed Baby Tom since he was just a little guy. We all knew he would grow up being a little golfer because his Dad, Big Tom is a golf pro right here in Wilmington. When Erica called to schedule a time for some more family photos, the golf course just seemed like a natural location. She wanted to capture her husband's love for the game and their precious little boy in a location that meant something to them all. Little Tom just got his first set of clubs made by none other than his Dad. He even has his own little bag. It is adorable to watch him run around the golf course and chase the golf balls... I don't know what he loved more, throwing the golf balls or hitting them.

We started off at the putting green where Little Tom learned how to use his putter and he wasn't a bad golfer at all... he almost got this one in!

Off to the third hole where Little Tom explored his golf bag a bit...

And now to try to hit a couple balls at the tee box...

Now time for some family shots...

Even Mom got in on the golf cart ride, but she wasn't to keen on driving the carts... just along for the ride and some cute family time!

Check out the contrast between Dad's bag and Little Tom's... how adorable is that!

printy family

11.25.07 ~ Kids & Family ~ posted by Millie

I have known the Printy's for years. I actually knew both Don & Abbye before they were married and was excited to hear that little Reagan was on the way years later. He has got to be the cutest kid ever! Every year, Don & Abbye have photos done for Christmas cards and this year they wanted something different from the usual beach shots. I set out to find a new location and happened upon the perfect spot. I know Abbye & Don had to be wondering what in the world I was thinking when I pulled up to a abandoned road full of dilapidate buildings, huge engines and old trucks... I hope they love the end result!

Also a huge congratulations to the Printy's who just found out that they are expecting again... If the next kid is half as cute as Reagan, I can't wait to see version 2.0!

Here is a shot of Reagan on the back of a old yellow dump truck we found hiding on the back of the property...

Reagan was more excited about the huge engine and the rocks on the ground than having his picture taken but I did manage to get him jumping around a bit...

Love this shot...

This is what you get sometimes when you try to take a family photo with a two year old.... so classic!

Another great find... a field full of these killer pod trees, I love the cold bare look of the field...

blood drive

11.24.07 ~ Documentary ~ posted by Millie

A couple of weeks ago, I headed over to Carolina Beach for a bone marrow registry & blood drive. If you don't remember reading about Dana on the blog, be sure to check out her story. Dana is a member of a local Mom's group which has been reaching out to help Dana spread the word about Aplastic Anemia and helping any way they can. They recently organized a bone marrow registry & blood drive at Carolina Beach and I was there to document the event... check it out!

For those of you who like to keep up with how Dana is doing, she is doing very well! We have been trying to set up a time that I can photograph her going through the transfusion process but have not been able to yet. The reason, she hasn't needed a transfusion... super news!

Our MHP company photographer, Amanda, came along with me and she grabbed this shot. Here are a couple of Mothers from the Mom's group who were stepping up to the plate to give blood as well!

Of course many of Dana's friends and clients volunteered to give blood... they were such troopers!

We headed over to the bone marrow room where this gentleman was helping people to fill out their paper work before heading to phase 2 of the process for a quick and easy swab of their mouth.

That is Dana in the background, she was helping out with the second phase of the bone marrow registry.

If I remember correctly, there are only 3 people in Wilmington with Aplastic Anemia, one is a young child, the other is another young lady, Channing. Somehow Dana was introduced to Channing and the two have become friends with a common bond, Channing also came out to the drive and helped!

Dana's husband, Eddie, was even helping out... The bone marrow registry was a huge success!

black friday

11.23.07 ~ Life ~ posted by Millie

I can't believe I did it... I seriously woke up at 3am and stood in a freezing cold line outside of a store for a $5 gift card. No seriously, if there is one thing I learned today it is that if you are going to get a good deal on black Friday, you have to be committed. If you are not willing to get up early and get running, you can kiss the best deals goodbye!

Let's get one thing straight. I did black Friday in TN several years ago and swore I would never do it again. I spent hours in a Best Buy line for a $2 bundle of DVD's, all of the other good stuff was taken by the people who were committed enough to camp out the night before (and they deserved it with that kind of dedication). The only reason I went this year is because my sister in-law, Dana, had never shopped black Friday and wanted the experience. She actually sat down last night to plan our list and it went something like this...

- Leave house at 3:30a with shoulder pads and helmet
- Beat traffic to Belk's (be the first 250 people, get $5,000 gift card, black shoes + $25 off coupon) Belk opens at 5a (Millie thought: I would rather be waiting at Best Buy or Circuit City)
- Send Mom to get Starbucks (Millie thought: this is my personal favorite part, I was freezing) triple shots of caffeine, no, how about just straight caffeine.
- Check Rack Room to see if open - buy $50 gift card and get $5 back. Get brown shoes, get $10 off $60 or more (use gift cards purchased to get maximum savings)

She seriously wrote this then read it to us and we laughed so hard... She had figured out how to get maximum savings, including going into the store to buy gift cards to get more gift cards, then spend them... LOL.

The list goes on and on, but that is the funniest part. We left the boys at home with Gavin and by 10:30a I was wiped... no energy left after 3 hrs of sleep and a full day of standing in lines so I called my Dad to come pick me up and they kept going. If there was anything good about he day it is that I purchased a new 42" LCD HDTV, a surround sound system, and a receiver at Circuit City (all this for less than I would have paid for the TV on a regular day). Mom & Dana continued to shop and didn't get home until after 3pm, they shopped for 12 hours straight and unloaded the car twice... that is just nuts!

So where did you go? What kind of deals did you get?
