11.25.09 ~ Updates, Life ~ posted by Millie

It's that time of year... take a break, breathe in the crisp cold air, warm up a cup of hot cocoa, grab a bite of pumpkin pie and be with those you love!

I'm especially excited because this year my entire family will be here for Thanksgiving, both of my brothers and their wives, along with my nephew, and my parents. We'll all be under one roof filling our bellies with Mom's delicious recipes and laughing and chatting to warm our hearts with one another's company.

Each year around thanksgiving I take some time to think about what it is I am truly thankful for... this year is no different so I thought I would share with all of you the blessings I'm counting during this wonderful season.

My Faith. Some days are easy.... other's are hard. It's through my faith in Jesus Christ that I'm able to recognize the blessings he has bestowed upon me in the good times and know that every good thing comes from above. It's in the hard times that I reminded that he carries me through them and brings me out on the other side unscathed. Thank you Lord for always coming through, you never let me down and my heart is happy for that reason. You have grace enough for even me!

My Family. I don't always spend the amount of time with my family that I should. This is typically the season and the time of year that we see one another the most. Although we all live in the same town, life has it's way of taking over. Around the holidays I am always overjoyed and completely in love with the thought of everyone being under one roof. It just feels right and I love them so! They love me no matter what and always have my back, for that I will always be grateful. This year we've had some rough times with my grandmother (you've heard me write about them here on this blog). Through this I have learned even more on the importance of family and plan to spend this year in a different spirit... soaking in every moment we have together!

My Friends. I have some of the best friend in the entire world. They are a little crazy but that's how I like em'. My friends have always believed in me, encouraged me and helped to shape me into the person I have become (this includes my family too of course). I'm not the perfect friend, I don't think anyone is... but these are my people, they know my heart and I am honored to have them in my life.

My Staff & Business. This has been a HUGE year for MHP. I'll share our completed goals list with you at the end of this year and you'll probably be as blown away as I am at what we have accomplished - my team always amazes me and I am so blessed to have such dedicated employees. They have cried with me this year, laughed with me and run with my vision. They have given me more of their time and effort then I deserve and I consider myself blessed to have them in my life. We have also had some pretty sweet clients this year and have a lot to be grateful for in next year's clients... I could go on and on.

My New Studio. I've had the most awesome opportunity to purchase a home this year and turn it into a cozy little place my staff and I can call home. It's been loads of fun to watch this little bungalow turn into something that truly expresses my character and style. I am loving the creative release that comes with having your own place to deck out!

The Opportunity to Learn & Grow. This year more than ever I've learned that I can't always be perfect. I expect perfection from myself many times, I'm pretty hard on myself when I screw up. I've had to learn to do the best I can with what I've been given and turn each moment into a learning experience. I'm thankful for the opportunity to find a lesson in everything and to grow. I'm just an ordinary girl doing things I never thought possible of myself to do.

I'll leave you with some images I took of my nephew, Gavin, last week. He was really hamming it up for the camera! I've never seen him do that before but he just kept smiling, posing and telling me to keep taking photos!

So tell me... what are you thankful for this season?

11.25.09 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Brent & Amanda

Not long ago, one of Brent's childhood friends Jared, married his sweetheart Miriam on a chilly October day. Jared and Brent grew up together in Greenville, NC and when it was time for Jared to get married he called on MHP! Miriam and Jared are such a great and fun-loving couple. During their engagement session (which you may remember seeing) we did a lot of laughing, talking and building a friendship.

When it came time for Miriam and Jared's wedding, Brent and I were pumped about working with them again and getting to experience the entire day. I went to hang out with Miriam and her ladies and grab the getting ready process while Brent went with Jared and his groomsmen. Miriam was so calm but excited that the "big day" had finally arrived. I was also excited because Miriam and Jared chose to do a "First Sight" for their wedding and I wanted to make sure it was special for both of them.

Thanks so much to Miriam and Jared for letting us be a part. The honor of being the wedding photographer never gets old and it only helps us love and enjoy our jobs even more to have fabulous clients like you!

Miriam was getting ready to show her Dad what she looked like in her dress and she needed a moment. I love all of the emotion in her face. I can tell how much she loves him...

...And how much he loves her back.

What a cutie!

With the help of Miriam's Dad, we made sure that their first sight was special. With Jared blindfolded, we had Miriam's Dad bring his lovely "little girl" (now a beautiful woman) to the excited groom, place their hands together and remove the blindfold. It was a great moment and I love how Miriam's Dad is in the background watching his daughter cling to the "other man" in her life.

Such a genuine smile of excitement. Love it!

Jared looks so happy to see his bride. Fun Fact Alert!: Not only was Miriam's Dad giving her away, but he and her brother (he's on the left side) were performing the wedding ceremony!

Inside the church were these lights that were hanging from the ceiling and they almost appeared to be floating. After the ceremony, Brent and I took Miriam and Jared and played around with the lights. They made for some dramatic shots.

On to the reception to start the party with a first dance.

I love the colorful lollipops!

I guess one could say that Miriam and Jared left with a "bang" literally. Everyone lined up and shot streams of confetti into the air while the couple ran through. The colors were so much fun and it was like a little parade featuring the newlyweds.

Miriam and Jared, we love you both and wish you everything that life offers! Thanks again!

11.25.09 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Millie

I had never met Karen & Tony prior to their wedding day. We had only briefly chatted over the phone and a couple of days before the wedding I called to chat about the logistics of the day and Tony answered... I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that he had an english accent. I LOVE accents so I was excited to hear that Tony & his family are from England and I would hear accents throughout the entire wedding day. AWESOME!

I kicked off the day by arriving at Karen's mother's home in Wachesaw, SC where the girls were getting ready. I immediately fell in love with the light in the room and started shooting.

A quick champagne toast before we ventured off to the ceremony site for formals...

I really love this location for a wedding... it's the Wachesaw Plantation Club and it's a fabulous location for an outdoor ceremony and indoor wedding reception.

I always LOVE it when brides and grooms opt for first sight. Here they are just seconds before Tony sees his beautiful bride for the first time. Then it was off to finish all of their family and bridal party photos and even just the two of them so that they could join in on the cocktail hour!

For this wedding I had Kristyn helping me out. She is a photographer in Tennessee and flew in just to help me out. Thanks Kristyn for coming out and lending me some help... you got some great shots! All of the individual images in this blog post without my signature were taken by her.

I took a bit of a risk with my viewpoint for the walk down the aisle. I spotted out a location earlier behind a tree so I could hide out and get the perfect shot of her and her Dad along with some great shots of their expressions!

I LOVE the emotions that wedding days hold. Karen could not get through her vows without a tear which I think is a true sign of her love and dedication to Tony... swoon!

Of course Mom & Dad were also a little emotional...

Following the ceremony we took some quick shots of the entire bridal part and a few more of the Karen & Tony since they were now husband and wife!

In honor of Tony's English heritage, there was a table full of delicious chocolate from England so I grabbed some fun candy to play with the rings a little!

This was a really fun crowd, they were pulling Kristyn and myself into dance all night long... here is a little collage of some of our favorite dance floor moments which we grabbed!

This was a fun surprise for Karen... at the end of the night all of her girlfriends gathered around to sing her favorite song... a great way to end a great day!

Karen & Tony - it was so great to meet you both! Even though I only met you for a short while I was honored to share in such an important day in your life and hope to share in many more to come. Best wishes to you both and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

11.25.09 ~ Updates, Life ~ posted by Millie, Brent & Amanda, Rachel, Rebecca

We all have hard days.

While we have seen some of our most beautiful weddings, met even more amazing clients, and snapped more sweet, spontaneous, magical moments than ever before- we have also had our fair share of the not-so-sweet things that inevitably come with a quickly expanding business, endless deadlines, and of course, stress stress stress. This was one of those weeks!

Yesterday, in the middle of our everyday hustle and bustle, we got a knock on our door, and standing there was David from Flower & Flour (one of our favorite local cake bakeries) with a very sweet box of cupcakes! It's truly amazing how something so small can really brighten an entire day!

David had no idea what kind of day, or even week we were having, but he delivered those cupcakes as a simple way of saying he was thinking about us.

I am so thankful for the real, lasting relationships we have established with other vendors in this industry- those friendships keep us going, keep us excited, and keep us anticipating the next wedding we will get to share with them.

We are so blessed to get to share what we do with other talented artists and incredible people! Thanks to Flower & Flour for making our day brighter and our spirits stronger, the cupcakes were incredibly tasty!

11.24.09 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rebecca

I met up with Janelle and Brett in Boone, NC for their engagement session. These two are awesome! They are just meant for each other.

Janelle and Brett actually met in high school, and are getting married next summer! They have an amazing wedding planned at Valley Crucis. Outdoor wedding in the mountains? Yes, Please!

I'm loving the pop of color in Janelle's pink coat!

When I left Raleigh to head up there, it was grey and rainy, but as I drove west, the sky became blue, the sun came out, and started making the changing leaves dance with color. Boone's leaves had mostly fallen the week before, but we managed to find a few for the background of this shot.

Aren't they the cutest?

This is one of my favorites - Brett is great at keeping Janelle laughing, and her expression in this one is just perfect!

These next few shots required us to go through an obstacle course, of sorts. It was off the beaten path, which meant climbing through a barbed wire fence, stepping in a cow patty, splashing in what used to be an old pond, and climbing trees and rocks. But I'm pretty sure it was worth it! I love these next two...

That tree had so much character!

Now this is the sign of a true outdoorsy couple - that they will climb a tree for a photo, even if it means ditching their shoes! You guys rock!

The beautiful engagement ring!

We did a bit more exploring around town...

The happy couple!

Janelle and Brett, I had a great time with you! Congratulations on your engagement, and I can't wait for your wedding!!
