02.25.10 ~ Kids & Family ~ posted by Millie

It took about three attempts for me to get over to little Pela's house for this fun family session. We had some scheduling conflicts and some sick days but in the end I'm glad it all finally worked out and it was worth the wait. Meet Pela, she is happy, adorable and a very attentive little love bug. She's just great and she's got fabulous and super sweet parents too so she's bound be a cool kid!

Pela came quite early and she's super tiny... you might remember the maternity session we did just a few short days before she was born almost a full month early!

I LOVE Pela's little smile in this shot. She's so happy being cuddled by her two favorite people!

Right at the end we were pushing our luck but Momma's got the magic touch and was able to settle her back down for a few more shots.

I'm sure Dave loved me when I inquired about his tattoos... a little questioning goes a long way and I LOVE how these next several shots turned out! Thanks Dave!

Thanks to this happy little family for such a blissful session and congrats to you both on a beautiful baby! Life is good!

loads of blog features...

02.25.10 ~ Press & Publication ~ posted by Millie, Brent & Amanda, Rachel

Things have been just nuts over here at MHP but in a good way of course! We have been super busy working on some big projects which we'll be bringing to WPPI this year in just a little over one week!

I've been so busy locking myself into the studio to meet deadlines that I realized today we haven't even blogged about all of the wonderful people who have been kind enough to feature MHP on their blogs both last week and this week. So here it is, a little accumulation of post on some amazing wedding blogs with interviews from our beloved couples. Read these posts in full and you'll know more about their big day and all the planning that went into it than you ever bargained for!

Heather & Orin's wedding was photographed on Bald Head Island, NC by Brent & Amanda. Weddings Unveiled features this quaint and detailed filled wedding which was by Kim Fisher Designs.

Wedding Unveiled also featured Carla & Don's wedding just this morning! It was photographed by Rachel right here in Wilmington, NC. The design and florals here are by Salt Harbor Designs. Be sure to read about Carla's crisis on her wedding day and how she took it all in stride and maintained her composure, it's worth reading!

Here is a blog we had not heard of until recently and now we love it! When Inspired By This requested to feature a wedding that Rachel shot, Rene & Jake's downtown Wilmington, NC wedding by Salt Harbor Designs we were thrilled. We are in love with the location (The Balcony On Dock), color palette and details of their big day.

If you missed the Vintage Citrus storyboard coming to life on the Snippet & Ink blog then go check it out now. Be sure to review Part 1 & Part 2. In this post you'll see how we took a story board and created a shoot to take through to the design of the event. A special thanks to The Balcony On Dock & Salt Harbor Designs for making this shoot a reality! This event was photographed by Millie & Amanda. Special thanks to Brent for the video footage which you have not seen yet and we hope to use soon!

haiti needs tents. how you can help

02.24.10 ~ Updates, Life ~ posted by Millie

If you follow me on twitter, there is no doubt you've seen me tweeting about giving tents to Haiti. Just a couple of weeks ago I was thinking of a way I could personally give to Haiti that would affect someone's life in an immediate way. Sure I could text to Red Cross or give to another relief organization and I did. I wanted to do more though, I wanted to do something that I knew the impact of immediately. I wanted to know that my attempts were making someone's life better.

I was incredibly moved by the devastation there and when I heard that the rains were coming and people didn't even have shelter, my heart sank! The thought of me being able to provide tents to families there (even if it was only one or two) made me want to do something. So I acted, I immediately headed over to purchase tents and sent them straight to the people collecting them and getting them to Haiti quickly!

As soon as I did this I still felt like I could do more... if I could use the influence I have (however small that might be) to help others to realize this amazing opportunity to provide a temporary home to a family for $100 or less then maybe my reach could spread a little further. More people could sleep in a dry place every night. Together we can make life easier for these people by providing something as small as a tent, that's it!

Here are the basic facts:

What: Used or New Waterproof Tents
Wilmington Drop Off info: Drop off tents at Port City Java's main office: 2101 Market Street (8am-5pm, M-F)
If ordering online and shipping:
go here!
When: ASAP - the rains start soon!

You can also read some articles about the need for tents here:
A Home in Haiti, MSNBC, BBC, & Yahoo

So I urge you, if your heart is moved by this post then visit our local Port City Java on Market St. to drop off a tent OR order one online right now!

02.23.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Brent & Amanda

When Annette contacted our studio about doing an engagement session for her and her fiance Damien, I told her I was up to the challenge. Annette and Damien originally first met when they were in middle school years ago. Who could have known that their paths would cross again in a bar in California!

Annette is outgoing, bubbly and has a contagious laugh that coincides with her sweet smile. Damien is a easy going, comical and only has eyes for his lady. Together they love to go bar hopping, watch movies, play cards and spend time with one another. Damien is a Marine and is getting ready to deploy next month overseas, so doing an engagement session seemed like the perfect thing to do before his departure.

We decided to meet downtown at a local bar, The Copper Penny, and take some shots. Annette mentioned that even though Damien was an outspoken person he was super shy in front of the camera. I told her no worries, we could fix that issue. We had them order a couple of drinks to take the edge off and in no time, they were talking, laughing and enjoying the moment.

From the bar, we ventured downtown and had a blast. Annette and Damien, thank you so much for being adventurous and open to try things. We had a wonderful time and hope you can relieve the moments in the images!

You guys look so great together!

Annette and Damien's smiles are amazing!

While exploring downtown, we came across a heart that someone had threaded and attached to a fence. I felt it was appropriate. After all, the month of February is a celebration of love!

Ahhhhhh...LOVE!

One of the things Annette cherishes about Damien is the way he kisses her on her forehead and tells her she's beautiful. I love the little things.

As I mentioned before, Annette and Damien enjoy playing cards, so we decided to pull this little detail into our shoot. Thanks for sticking with us until we got it right. I love how it looks!

Fun!

Thanks again to Annette and Damien for a fun session! We wish you both the best and hope to work with you again in the future!
