03.24.11 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rebecca

Tabbetha and Austin are one seriously cute couple! I had a feeling about these two, just from the emails we exchanged, and we met in person, I knew for sure we'd have a great time!

Tabbetha told me that they wanted a mix of city and lake locations for their session, and I had just the spots in mind. We met up on an absolutely gorgeous day in downtown Raleigh. Tabbetha's dress was just the perfect pop of color!

I love the way they look at each other. So much conveyed in a look - deep friendship, genuine care, true love.

Tabbetha has her grandmother's signature tattooed on her foot. What a cool way to commemorate someone she loves. And the signature is gorgeous.

As we walked down the street and came to this corner, I saw the sunlight just peeking between the buildings, and I knew we had to shoot here. You know those people who you meet the first time, and you know you want to be their friend? Tabbetha and Austin are those kind of people. They are genuine, fun-loving, and really friendly. I love that.

So, from downtown, we headed out to one of the local lakes. Tabbetha and Austin brought along their puppy, who is a big part of their cute little family!

Austin did an fantastic job choosing the ring, don't you think?

Tabbetha made this little sign for their Save the Dates herself - each letter is cut from a piece of a map - and each one is a location that is special to them as a couple. What a fantastic idea!

Tabbetha and Austin, I had a fantastic time with you! Congratulations on your engagement, and I can't wait to see you again for your wedding! It will be an amazing time!

03.23.11 ~ Life ~ posted by Rachel

Andrew and I recently took a day trip for the first time to the regal Biltmore Estates in Asheville North Carolina. They don't allow photography inside the house, unfortunately, but I did manage to grab a few shots of the grounds. I was blown away by the sheer size of this single family home!

If you are a client of mine and are looking for an amazing place to do an engagement session or bridal, please consider the grounds of the Biltmore! It's absolutely fantastic and would make for a stunning shoot.

Andrew and I waited for about 40 minutes to get the first image on this blog post. We were waiting for pretty light and for the tour buses to pass. While it was worth the wait for sure, we were getting a little antsy toward the end. So I told Andrew to stand in front of the house for a photo. He just stood there and stared at me. Well, that wouldn't do so I told him to do something regal; something that would make him look like he belonged in a photo with a mansion. Aaaand, this was his response. haha Love him.

keeping up with the hollomans : bald head island, nc

03.21.11 ~ Updates, Life, Commercial, Press & Publication ~ posted by Millie, Brent & Amanda

We’re a loud, on the go, competitive, loud bunch. Yes, I mentioned loud twice, because it bears repeating. But we are also family and spending time together is something we hold near and dear to our hearts.

Several years ago at Christmas, we were all sitting around chatting about the importance of seeing one another more than during the Holidays. For us, that just wasn’t enough so we started planning to change that.

The next year we spent a week at Bald Head Island and fell in love.

So when the opportunity to visit Bald Head came up again, we took it without hesitation. But this time, we would be followed by a couple of writers, Jason and Lauren Frye who work for Bald Head Island’s magazine, Haven. They also asked us to document the entire vacation as it unfolded everyday using our cameras.

One of my favorite parts about Bald Head and being with family is that you can never be bored. Whether going for a bike ride, venturing out on a nature trail, or sun bathing at the beach there is always something to do!

This year we stayed on the marsh side of the island where we had a dock that led straight out to the water. We took advantage of kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding all week long!

Throughout the week, each Holloman grouping chose a night to cook dinner. When you are cooking for 15 people it’s a big undertaking! And after dinner, just like clock work, teams were formed for a serious game of spades.

During the day we would visit the beach, play games at the pool, do a puzzle or enjoy a nap. Basically, we did whatever we wanted!

For a family vacation, we stayed super busy. I might have even needed a vacation from my vacation in the end! But no matter the case, it was a great week shared with some of my favorite people. You can read the whole story by Lauren Frye for yourself, just click here and look for page 28!

my baby brother's getting married!

03.21.11 ~ Engagement, Life ~ posted by Rachel

"I have something to tell you. But you have to PROMISE not to tell anyone else." That was my brother about 2 months ago. He was calling me from Ohio in a hushed voice. Before he said his next sentence I already knew what was coming, but I let him say it anyway. "I'm going to ask Becky to marry me." After getting through the initial shock of what just came out of my baby brother's mouth, I congratulated him from over 400 miles away. Just for a moment, I got a little sad. Ricky has grown so much in the last few years and is now facing some of the most important moments of his life, but I can't be a part of it. But then...

"So, do you want to come up here to photograph it? I have a great idea for the proposal!" Fighting back tears, I of course said that I would do whatever I could to be there. I wouldn't dream of missing it! Fast forward to about two weeks ago. My sister, Joy, and I traveled in to Ohio to meet up with Ricky and his girlfriend Becky's family. From the moment we arrived, there were secrets floating around everywhere. Everyone knew except for Becky. Ricky had even gotten permission from her father. It was all set. I was to mention that I'd love to visit the aquarium they like to go on special occasions to see what all the fuss was about. So on Thursday, March 3rd, we all woke up really early to travel to the amazing Newport Aquarium.

Ricky LOVES the Newport Aquarium. He loves it so much that he's spent his last two birthdays there. After going through this massive place, I understood why. It definitely focuses on fish, but there's pretty much everything there. Birds, snakes, frogs, you name it.

We had to get there early to make it in time for the live show. Becky had no clue why, but she would soon find out! These two scuba divers were holding an educational show inside the shark pit while we watched from stadium seating. The one on the right was mic'ed while the one on the left used the pole to guide the sharks away. It was a thrilling show!

After the presentation was over, the majority of the people left, but I asked the host if we could take a few pictures in front of the stage. Sneaky. :) Ricky and Becky's backs were to the aquarium. While I took a few shots, the scuba diver pulled up the sign Ricky had made from under the sand. When he was ready, I screamed "Becky look behind you!!" And the rest you can see in pictures. I cry every time I look at these!

Becky said yes! Joy, Jarrod (Becky's brother) and I left the newly engaged couple alone for a little while to let everything sink in. There was so much more of the aquarium to see, though, so we eventually all went through it together!

This over-the-moon-in-love couple was patient enough to do a few more pictures in front of the aquarium after we were done. I love these next images.

Before heading home, I made sure to capture a few personal shots of the engagement ring. Ricky is a drummer and Becky is a pianist, so these just made sense. :)

Be sure to look for Ricky and Becky's wedding images in the spring of 2012!

Ricky, I can't thank you enough for including me in this special moment between you and Becky. I am so incredibly happy for you!!!

freedom house church 2011

03.20.11 ~ Commercial ~ posted by Rachel

It's always a pleasure to work with the amazing staff over at Freedom House Church! Each year, they do a photo shoot all together to update their website and to have a bit of fun together as a group. I thought we were going to get rained out this year, but the rain didn't come until an hour after we finished. Yay! All you photographers out there know that made for beautiful light in each and every one of the images. Score! Each staff member got an individual shot for their bio on the website...

Aren't they a good looking bunch? The entire staff was great to work with, doing whatever I asked with a big smile! We picked the same location for the staff shoot as the pastoral family shoot taken in October to keep the website cohesive. It's a great location for a church wanting to reach the city!

Even when I asked everyone to step out onto the road for the last shot, there was no hesitation.

A huge thank you to the Freedom House Church staff for all making it out together for this shoot! It is an honor to serve this church.
