Lauren & Jason were married at Wrightsville United Methodist Church and their reception followed at The Surf Club on Wrightsville Beach. Their wedding was so much fun, and they were surrounded by so many wonderful friends and family to celebrate their big day!
I actually have known Jason for quite some time; he maintains all of our computers over here at MHP. (If you know a business that needs a computer guy let me know... Jason is the man). I have also had a wonderful time getting to know Lauren throughout their entire wedding process; they are such a sweet couple. From engagement photos to bridals we have laughed, experimented and just had a blast.
One of my most favorite things about shooting for these two is how open they are to just let me shoot whatever I want... they don't have any reservation at all when I ask them to do crazy things and that helps me to rock out their images...
When I got there the girls were getting ready so I grabbed the boquets and tried to find some interesting places to shoot them. The boquets are done by none other than the fabulous Wendy Wright of A Beautiful Event. |

A little time for some portraits of the groom...

Playing with some crazy shadows...

My favorite part about this image is the reaction it got when Lauren first saw it, she instantly said, "those are my Dad's hands!" I think it is cool how we can tell so much about who people are from little things like their hands.

Jason and his brother waiting in the hallway for the okay to enter the sanctuary and start the ceremony...

I always love how happy couples are when they are coming back down the aisle...

The cake made by Taylor of Sweet T's, she always does a fabulous job and I especially like the base she made for the bottom of this cake... it really gave the cake table that extra pop of color and set it apart!

During the cocktail hour, the guest were entertained by Paco Strickland... he is awesome!

Mohito's were the drink of the night and they are quite time consuming to make. This guy made them all night non-stop. I actually tried one of these myself to see what all of the hype was about... I didn't really care much for it but they are pretty hot right now!

A little first dance action, they totally rocked it out!

Since the Surf Club is right on the beach, we snuck out for a bit so the newlyweds could get some alone time and a quick photo opportunity. I really love the sea oats this time of year, they are so perfect and golden.

In keeping with the theme of green... I grabbed a glass of limes to shoot the rings

Jason's brother thought up a neat game for them to play at the reception. They had to take their shoes off and then a questions was asked... they had to raise the shoe for whoever the answer would most apply to... it was pretty funny!

The band was a trip, not only were they the genius behine the cowbell but they had these crazy masks they wore for a couple of songs... this guy was really good too, he was playing really fast while spinning around really fast.

Then they gave Lauren the guitar and had her play a little something for the crowd...

At the end of the night, the band serenaded the couple while they were circled by friends and family... a great end to a great day!

My youngest brother, Brent, and his wife, Amanda, will be celebrating their 1 year anniversary tomorrow, September 1st.
Even before they were married they talked about having their wedding bands tattooed as a sign of permanence in their marriage. A symbol that in a world full of divorce and infidelity, their marriage would stand the test of time. Since they are coming up on their 1 year, they decided to head out to Jade Monkey while in town this week and get inked.... I went along because I thought it would be a great photo opportunity. Below are some of the shots from their little adventure.
|

A sacrafice of love... their reactions when they felt the first little prick were hilarious...

A little hand holding... notice the wedding ring on the right hand while a little healing takes place.

They chose to go with a single black band that would be covered by their actual wedding bands...

While this big family of 18 was vacationing in the Carolina's they had arranged for me to meet them on the beach for family photos. I do a lot of beach session but rarley this large of a group... it is quite a challenge to get everyone together and looking great all at once... but I enjoy a challenge so I was up for it. Of course, my favorite shots are the candid shots I grabbed of the kids just being themseleves.

I love this shot of Grandpa playing with the littlest one...

And then with one of the older boys...

A moment I snapped when they were all walking down the beach together... love this shot!

The parents actually wanted a more serious shot of all three kids together but when I asked them to get a little closer and hug... this is what I got... so classic, so cute! Although I got the more serious shot, I like this one 100 times better.

A sweet little moment that these siblings will appreciate 20 years from now...

I love that little pouty face...

I was actually photographing a group when I saw this and snapped it really quickly... I love how when you just watch kids... they always do just the right thing eventually!

At the end of the session Mom was having a little fun with her son. I really enjoy the emotion and motion in this shot...

Screen Printing

08.28.07 ~ Life ~ posted by Millie

This morning my brother, Brent, and I headed over to the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) working class studio. This studio is where all the magic happens at SCAD. Each quarter only a handful of students are selected for SCAD's working internship program. Brent was selected last quarter which means he has access to this neat facility.
While speaking in New Haven a couple of months ago, my friends, Mary & Justin, were telling me about these cool boxes that Ikea had (Strikt Boxes). Of course, they don't ship them... you have to get them in the store... so I pretty much bought all of the brown boxes Ikea has with the intention of using them for something special here at MHP. Thanks for the info Mary & Justin.
My brother had the idea to take the whole box concept a step further and screen print my logo on it. Since I am here in Savannah for another few days, we headed out today to print the boxes and they look great. I thought I would document the whole process and all of the work that went into this project to show you here...
This is the working class studio... isn't it in a way cool place?! It is underneath a bridge...
|

The interior is of course really neat as well... the work you see is the kinds of things they turn out right here in the studio. Everything they do is really modern. They make prototypes for large companies such as Barnes & Nobles, Blick and many others.

From journals, to pillows, to t-shirts, they make all of the prototypes here...

We started out with a blank screen which must be sprayed with water & degreaser, then rinsed and dryed with a hair dryer.

Brent holding up the screen to the light to be sure there is no water left on it...

Then it is on to the darkroom where the emulsion is put onto the screen then left to dry. The emulsion basically cover the holes so that we can later uncover only what we want printed.

The dark room has these weird red lights and it is really hard to shoot in there but I managed to get a good shot. After this we left the studio to let the screen dry and then came back a few hours later for the next step in the process.

A little more info about the program...

The next step was for Brent to print out the logo and then copy it onto a transparent sheet. Then we placed the clear sheet and the screen onto a table and cut it on to work it's magic. The table is like a huge tanning bed, with lighting on the bottom and a black fabric on top. The emulsion is sensitive to light... so basically what we are doing is burning the logo we want printed onto the screen so the emulsion comes out of those holes only... and we are left with the perfect pattern to get started.

we just clean the screen again, mix the paint, and then begin the fun part which goes by super fast... actually applying the pattern to the boxes.

Place the paint on the screen...

Then we used the squeegie to get the paint through the holes... one quick pass...

Blow dry the paint so they are ready to pack up... and viola!

I am really into this whole do it yourself process... although it helps to have all the big machines! I have a much bigger appreciation for screen printing in general and my boxes! Thanks for all of the help Brent... it was fun!

On Saturday, while in Atlanta, I stopped by the Mac store and walked out with a new 17" MacBook Pro.

I have been thinking about the switch for a while now because I was working off of two laptops... my 12" mac was too small to edit on. My PC screen was 17" (just right) so I would swap out between them depending on what I needed. I had half of my stuff on one and half on the other and could never take them both while traveling. I needed everything to be in one place.
One of my goals over the next few months is to get more organized so switching to one computer was a must. I love how much better my prints are when I edit on a Mac... the screens are calibrated for color so much better and I feel like my images are more crisp.
My goal is to run on all Macs by 2009... I know that is a long ways off but I just purchased a custom build PC earlier this year... I hope to eventually turn that into our server.
I do have a question for all of you Mac users out there. I was using Outlook on PC and I liked the functionality of it. Is there a similar program out there for Mac or something even better? If you know of something please leave it below in the comments so that I can check it out. Thanks! |
