08.13.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Brent & Amanda

Ever meet someone and you instantly like who they are? Bridger and Nick fit this bill for sure! While Brent and I were taking some time away on Bald Head Island, we scheduled for Bridger and Nick to come over for their engagement session. I was so thrilled to meet them and we had the best time hanging out, laughing and just getting to know one another.

Bridger and Nick met on the shores of Wrightsville Beach, where one little question sparked their relationship, "Do you want to meet my dog bear?" Who knew that a fluffy pup and a sweet smile would carry these two to this moment! Both Bridger and Nick love the outdoors, good music and big dose of laughter. Seeing their love for one another and the excitement in their eyes is refreshing. Makes me want to squeeze my hubby a little tighter too!

When Brent and I greeted Bridger and Nick at the ferry landing we were greeted with full smiles and warm hugs. We hopped in the golf cart (no cars on the island) and wasted no time. Since Bridger and Nick both adore the water and it is where their love began, we figured it was only natural to start on the shoreline.

Sweet smiles.

Love the series of tilt shots Brent grabbed. So fun!

There is adventure in everything, and sharing it with the one you love is even better.

While on the beach we saw this sign and just had to use it! Don't worry folks, no clothes were casted off during the making of this photo.

Bridger and Nick may have met on the beach, but their love has carried them away to mountains of Asheville, NC where they reside. And one of the great things about Bald Head is that it offers the beach and the natural woods. It was perfect.

Sometimes we like to make our clients "work" for their pictures. This time we thought it would be fun to go on a little bike ride on the island. I think they are having a good time!

A quick pause...

...then back on the road!

We ended the session with some time hanging out on the dock on the sound side. It was so peaceful and serene and I could have stayed there all evening.

Love this moment.

Love Bridger's hat!

Bridger and Nick, thanks for being flexible, risking/dodging thunderstorms and being such great people! Brent and I had a blast and we are looking forward to the wedding!

06.30.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rebecca

Rachel and Ben are seriously super cute! Their first thought when it came to their engagement session was to do part of it at the Asheville Farmer's Market. I thought it was a brilliant idea, so that's where we started out.

In the afternoon and evening at the Farmer's Market, things are quiet, which is nice, but it also means that most of the colorful produce is put away. But we had these amazing watermelons that were everywhere!

I love the way Rachel's blue dress an red hair just pop against all that green. Rachel and Ben were so cute, and willing to be a little silly with me, which I love in a couple!

Looking for a bit more color, we headed over to the greenhouse area, and we were not disappointed. Lots of flowers, lots of color. See how they're looking at each other here? This is real. This is exactly the way they look at each other all the time. So. In. Love.

PS, who doesn't love a dress with pockets?? It is my new favorite thing about dresses.

I just love the lines in this shot, and how their arms kind of create the opposite angle as the siding... shapes are fun!

We had just a bit of rain for a little while, but Rachel and Ben handled it like champs!

I want this building to be in Raleigh. I love all the windows and the different colors!

Hello, gorgeous ring!

One of Ben's friends was nice enough to bring over Rachel and Ben's dog, Gracie, toward the end of our session. Gracie was super excited to be on camera, and I think they just make the cutest little family!

Rachel and Ben, thanks for spending the afternoon with me! I had a great time with the two of you, and I can't wait for your wedding!

05.21.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Millie, Brent & Amanda

Nate and Sarah are such an awesome couple! I don't even need to tell you just how awesome they are, because you will see their incredible fun-loving personalities in these photos. Both of them are self-proclaimed geeks. And they wanted their wedding to be at once chic and geeky. It might sound like a strange combination, but this couple pulled it off beautifully! The color scheme was bold, dramatic, and sunny--just like Sarah! I love the way that she incorporated black, white and yellow into everything--even the wine! The entire wedding design, including this stunning bouquet, is the brilliant work of Salt Harbor Design.

Sarah, a dentist (doesn't she have perfect teeth?), flashed her gorgeous smile all day long!

Sarah and Nate also wanted to incorporate a Great Gatsby feel into their day. I think this shot evokes the era quite nicely, don't you?

Amanda captured shots of Nate getting dressed in his wedding finery. Don't you just love the "crow socks" that Sarah bought for him?

Here's Nate waiting to see his beautiful bride for the very first time.

It's laughter, smiles, and love at First Sight!

A sweet kiss before the ceremony.

Nate is such a fun guy! I think he's just a little excited to be getting married to Sarah, don't you?

Sarah found these fabulous plaid socks at Urban Outfitters . Nate's "crow socks" came from the hip WIlmington retailer Edge of Urge.

Enough about the socks--can we talk about these spiffy shoes?

Sarah and Nate had their first date at Caffe Phoenix with friends. The restaurant will soon be moving to a new location, so the couple wanted to stop by the original venue to capture the memory for posterity. They even invited the friends who were with them on that first night to take their places at the table.

Sarah and Nate love to be goofy! As they exited the cafe, it only took one little nudge from me to get them to ham it up.

Sarah looks so happy....

The ceremony was held in one of Wilmington's beautiful historic churches, St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Market Street.

Guests bow their heads in a prayer for a lifetime of happiness for Sarah and Nate.

A view from the church balcony with the organ pipes and the beautiful ceiling to frame the shot.

We were not allowed inside the sanctuary unless we were in the balcony. Amanda actually got this shot through a crack in the door--can you believe it?

After the ceremony, Sarah and Nate (and their adorable dogs Beatrice and Paddington) led their guests in a parade from the church to the reception site, The Bellamy Mansion.

Accordionist Frankie Gerald played German-inspired tunes during the parade, a nod to Nate's German roots. Frankie was a hit with the guests. He actually stayed throughout the reception and got into the geeky chic spirit of the party. What a guy!

Did you notice that even the accordion matched the couple's color scheme?

Frankie rockin' it out!

Bea and Paddy are ready for their close-up!

Now this is my kind of group shoot. Doesn't the Bellamy Mansion look like the perfect Great Gatsby-inspired venue? More photos to follow once the party got started. Stay tuned.

05.10.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rebecca

Diane and Ed are the type of couple you can just look at and know that they are in L.O.V.E. The way they look at each other, talk to each other, and treat each other just speak volumes of their relationship.

They were engaged right here in Raleigh, so we thought, what better place to start out for their engagement session? I love all the ivy taking over this wall, and the way that Diane and Ed are so captivated with each other!

Ed is really good at keeping Diane smiling and laughing... and I think she keeps him smiling as well.

Old warehouses offer so much texture, and a great backdrop to show off a gorgeous couple!

Don't you think Ed did a brilliant job choosing the ring?

After shooting around downtown for a bit, we headed out to this great field. It's right in the middle of town, but you'd never know it! Diane and Ed's dog, Fozzie, joined us for this part of the shoot. I think he's just adorable, and they make a really sweet little family!

Favorite shot of the day!

Diane and Ed, thanks for spending the afternoon with me! I can't wait for your wedding this summer!

georgia + josh . atlanta, ga

05.07.10 ~ Engagement ~ posted by Rachel

I recently took a drive down to Atlanta, Georgia for an engagement session at Piedmont Park. Georgia and Josh are a super sweet couple who are getting married next month in Georgia's home town of Brevard, North Carolina. Millie had met Georgia while planning the Love Affair Workshop '09 and said she was a joy to be around. She was absolutely right! Georgia and Josh are the type of people that make you feel like you've known them for years.

We started our shoot with their two adorable pups. As soon as I saw how in love they are with their animals, I knew we would get along famously! Their dogs are like their children, which is exactly the same way I feel about Emma.

After a few shots in Piedmont Park, we took a stroll through the neighborhood where Georgia and Josh had their first official date. This place was full of character and color! Speaking of color, don't you just LOVE Georgia's polka dot dress? So amazingly cute.

Diet Coke, maltese dogs, back rubs, shopping, and Josh. These are a few of Georgia's favorite things. :)

Georgia emailed me a few days before I was scheduled to come to Atlanta for their session, saying that the weather was calling for high winds. "Should we reschedule?" she asked. No way! Wind is so romantic and fun!

While Georgia went into this quaint little ice cream shop, I told Josh that he was so nice to be doing this photo shoot with her and really getting into it. His response? "I'd do anything for her."

Hit me right in the heart.

A ring, a kiss, and an ice cream cone. What could be better?

At the very end of our session, we drove by this very talented man. He was so gracious and friendly and reminded me why I moved to The South!

Georgia and Josh, thank you so much for welcoming me into your lives! I am on pins and needles for your wedding day.
