Melissa and Kevin are getting married this fall here in the beautiful state of North Carolina. Not only have they been planning their wedding, but both of them have been busy completing their degrees from college as well. School has been a big part Melissa and Kevin's lives and they have a strong connection to both of the schools they attended. Brent and I thought using their college campuses would be a great for their engagement session.

We started at Peace College (which happens to be an all-girl school) where Melissa attended for teaching. The campus was beautiful with the old brick buildings and large columns. We even decided to venture up onto the roof of the campus! Later on, we all headed over to NC State where Kevin went for his undergrad. Kevin actually just finished law school and is studying for his bar exam later this year (we wish you all the best in that endeavor)!

Brent and I had a wonderful time with Melissa and Kevin and can't wait until November for their special day. We know it is going to be a blast with lots of fun and memories. Thanks so much to you both!

You wouldn't know it, but Melissa is not too keen on heights. She looks pretty safe and happy in the arms of her Kevin!

In between college campuses we stopped in a park to grab some shots of Melissa, Kevin and their cute little schnauzer named Maggie. She is so cute and holds a special place in my heart.

We stopped at NC State's Bell Tower for some shots with Melissa and Kevin. It really was a beautiful sight.

I like the textures in the old bricks at NC State. Kevin told me that each year a company donates bricks to the college. The company only donates as many bricks as were used the year before, so the school makes sure they have a steady need at all times to use as many as are given.

I like all of the lines in this shot.

Again, I love the lines!

Towards the end of our session we headed down to a tunnel where anyone can enjoy creating some graffiti. It was amazing and so full of color! I looked at it as living art because it was always changing and evolving into something new and different.

Brent decided to create a panoramic from one of the graffiti walls, only with a little twist. I love the end result!

gavin is two! http://www.milliehollomanblog.com/index.cfm?postID=731 http://www.milliehollomanblog.com/index.cfm?postID=731 Tue, 30 Jun 2009 13:58:00 GMT Millie

fun with the party blower!

Check out the shot on the bottom left of Gavin with his microphone from Aunt Amanda and Uncle Brent. This was the perfect gift because Gavin loves to watch American Idol and pretend like he is singing in the microphone which is usually whatever he can find to make a mic with but now he has a real one!

For the kids there were slip n' slides, water sprinklers, a baby pool, bubbles, water guns, water balloons, and of course a cake for Gavin made by Sweet T's!

Lindsey rocked it out with the duke blue devil on our homemade cake!

an there was an ice cream bar, yummo!!!

Happy Birthday little man now hurry home so Auntie Millie can squeeze you and give you some kisses!

Gavin, my nephew, is two! It's actually hard to believe this little guy is growing up so quickly. I know people say that a lot but I never realized how quickly a child grows up until Gavin was born... watching him has been a HUGE source of joy in my life. Every little thing he says is cuter than before and everything he does makes us laugh. He's a keeper!

Gavin ... Dana have been visiting family in Kansas for the last few weeks and he celebrated his second birthday there with family and friends, but before he left he had a little slip n' slide and ice cream party at our house with some friends and family. Fun!

Noelle and Matt http://www.milliehollomanblog.com/index.cfm?postID=725 http://www.milliehollomanblog.com/index.cfm?postID=725 Sat, 27 Jun 2009 11:36:00 GMT Rebecca

My friends Matt and Noelle have been married for a while now, but never got engagement pictures done. They really wanted some images that really captured their relationship with each other at this point in their life together, and I couldn't agree more! The first few years of marriage, when you're just starting out, are completely irreplaceable. Whether it's a great first year or a year of trials, through which you grow closer together, you just cannot get this time back. So we decided to go out and capture some images of the two of them for them to remember this time in their lives.

We decided to go outside of my normal shooting area, and we discovered some amazing locations!!!! It had threatened to rain all day, and we contemplated canceling the shoot, but decided to chance it anyway. I am SO glad we did! The rain held off, and we had some amazing clouds to work with!

Noelle and Matt are such a sweet couple! They read on my bio page that I love chocolate and diet coke, so they brought me some when we met for their shoot! Isn't that awesome of them?!?

You can tell from the way they interact that they are so in love - i love that!

Matt grew up in Kansas, so he really wanted to find a wheat field to get some pictures in... he actually scoped this out one day before we shot and suggested it - nice work, don't you think?

I LOVE this one - they are so deep in conversation with each other that they forgot I was there. Sometimes that just makes for the best, most natural photos.

A quiet moment together, watching the storm clouds roll by.

Not only was there an amazing wheat field, but right beside it, there was this tree covered in kudzu. I just couldn't pass it up!

I'm so jealous of Noelle's hair - curly, blonde, and perfect! I think she is so beautiful!

One of my favorite things about my clients is that most of the time they will do anything I ask! Noelle and Matt were all about laying down in this field of kudzu all for the sake of a good photo. I couldn't ask for better than that!

This could be my favorite - I love how they are looking at each other! You can just see the love there.

After we finished up at the wheat field, we headed to an abandoned gas station that we had spotted on the way out there. People were driving by and honking, but Noelle and Matt handled it like pros! I think they were just honking in approval, don't you?

Our next stop: a roadside vineyard. I learned something new this day - apparently if you've been around roses, you shouldn't go into a vineyard. We hadn't, but the guy who owned this vineyard told us that roses carry a disease that can kill the grapes... whoops!

But I just adore these photos - the clouds, the lines...

Matt and Noelle, you two are just amazing! I am so glad to have had the chance to shoot some belated engagement photos for you!

jessica and jason . details http://www.milliehollomanblog.com/index.cfm?postID=726 http://www.milliehollomanblog.com/index.cfm?postID=726 Tue, 23 Jun 2009 12:58:00 GMT Rebecca

Recently I had the rare opportunity to go to a wedding as a guest! Jessica's dad, Bill, was my youth pastor back in high school, and he and his wife, Susan, were like my second parents. Our families were really close back in the day, and so I was thrilled to get the chance to go back to Wilmington to see some old friends and most of all to see Jessica marry Jason!

When I first walked in the church and saw how beautiful the flowers were, I had a hunch that they were the work of Jennifer from Salt Harbor. She does such amazing work and is incredible to work with, so I couldn't have been more thrilled! I brought along my camera, just in case. I mean, you never know when you're going to have amazing details to shoot... and man, did I ever luck out!

Jessica and Jason did some brilliant planning - their church wedding was followed immediately by some light refreshments, and then lots of time for their photographer to get pictures of the families, wedding party, and even the two of them around downtown, before heading to the reception at St. Thomas Preservation Hall. My family and I arrived at the reception a few minutes early, so I took advantage of the extra time to shoot some of the awesome details before all the other guests arrived.

It was stunning inside - and Jessica's colors of sea green and orange were reflected perfectly in the warm light of the hall. Not to mention the stained glass!

Jessica hand made truffles to give to their guests as wedding favors. And, let me just tell you, they were super tasty!

Such a fun idea for a guest book - it's like tons of little messages in a bottle!

I dont' know what kind of flower this is - but I love how it looks all ruffley!

There was even this fun little seating area for the guests to enjoy and socialize in...

Jessica and Jason worked lots of really personal details into their day - this cake topper was used at her parents' and grandparents' weddings! How fun!! And the cake, by Flower and Flour was amazing!

The guests arrived, and the party began... lots of hustle and bustle...

Jessica also had a really special item in her bouquet. This little Bible was carried in the flowers of her mom and grandmother on their wedding days as well. I just love little details like that - it makes the day all that much more personal to the bride.

It was a beautiful day, and I was so glad to be there to see Jessica and Jason happily married! Congratulations - I wish you guys many many years of happiness and love!

The final table was fantastic! For this one we set up in a old house that sits right on Orton's new event property. I just love the solitude and romance twisted into this setting! The chairs were already there so Jennifer just set up the table and laid out some details to bring this spot up to it's true potential. The perfect table for two!

Probably my favorite table of the day, although I love them all! Jennifer themed this one after the idea for Orton's opening celebration of the new site, "A Secret Garden" with a key at every place setting and one on Abi's necklace! I also love the bottle lanterns found on the table, if you know where to get these, please let me know, she's been looking more but can't seem to find them.

Since Abi is an artist Jennifer also brought along a easle and paint... how fun! You can read more about this theme and the creative genius behind it by clicking here.

Another Salt Harbor creation at Orton Gardens and there are two more to come so stay tuned! Also someone who I did not metion in the previous post who gets a big Thank You and hug is Abi. Abi is who you would speak with if you are planning a wedding at Orton as she is the Marketing Director and to go to gal. Despite her best attempts to wiggle her way out of being our model for the day we think she really rocked it!
